What ?!? All I did was start a thread about MSU... I said your AD reached out to ND's Athletic Dept... Just trying to keep tRant informed on the comings and goings of their fellow SEC brethren.

Here's how the rant works.

Let's laugh at Mississippi State.
Let's laugh at Mississippi State some more.
Ha! Look at Mississippi State's non-conference schedule (ignoring that its the first time in 10+ years we have had four cupcakes)
Mississippi State is trying to schedule a big name program? Ha! They should fire the secretary.

ND fans want a H/H with UGA.

Excellent program with whom we (ND) have never had a home/home. ND fans want to visit Athens. There's a fairly significant contingent of ND alumni and fans in the Atlanta area.

Sorry MSU, but with the 5 game ACC agreement and the locked-in games with USC, Stanford, and Navy, that only leaves four slots a year. With Texas, Michigan State, and BYU on the upcoming schedules, you ain't getting a slot. We want a name and a big game.

In 2012 you played Jackson State, South Alabama and Middle TN State at home... To really strengthen the OOC slate you played @ Troy.

This isn't EliteDawgs... You can't post something that's utter bullshite and everyone nod their head and accept it as the truth.

It's that way with almost every school. The school's that don't get mocked very often just don't have a lot of posters.

Oh, the horror of losing to the #3 and #1 teams in the country. We're scarred for life.

How about before that?

Notre Dame 41 - Tennessee 21
Notre Dame 17 - Tennessee 13
Notre Dame 39 - LSU 36
Notre Dame 9 - LSU 27
Notre Dame 24 - LSU 6

And that was with three of the worst coaches we've ever had.

There's only 1 SEC team against which we have an all-time losing record (UGA at 0 - 1). We're 15 - 11 against the Big Six. I guess we'll take our chances.

This, they want a game that will get exposure and sell tickets.

So they play Adidas' premiere team. Can't get any bigger than that.

I was at the game the last time you ventured into MS. You lost the game but won the NC that year.

That loss was probably the best thing to happen to that team; we wouldn't have won the title without it. Joe motherFing Montana was third string and didn't even travel with the team down to Jackson. It exposed how putrid Devine's offenses were without playmakers. He traveled with the team the next week to Purdue...the starter got hurt wen ND was down 2 touchdowns and Montana came in. ND came back and won. We blasted through most of the rest of the schedule...Michigan State, #5 USC, Georgia Tech, Clemson in Death Valley, Miami in the Orange Bowl, and then Texas in the Cotton Bowl. All because Devine got lucky enough that Rusty Lisch got hurt.

My thought is, they want to play a big six team, so if they lose its not big deal but if they were to play state and lose, everyone would laugh...because its well Miss State.

Exactly. Gotta find the sweet spot between name recognition and ability to beat you.

Recently (but perhaps not right now for some) this could include UCLA, Washington, K State, WVU, Virginia, UNC, most of the Big 10, etc.

Interesting enough to appease your fan base, good for TV, but pretty winnable. Not sure who fits that mold in the SEC, at least out a couple of years. Ole Miss or Tennessee would be the best bets, I don't think anyone but UT in the Big 6 would be wise at all.

Eh, I won't pretend that we've had really difficult schedules since 2005 or so (hasn't helped that Michigan has sucked arse since then and SC fell of a cliff when Carroll left), but give us credit...we have historically played the powerhouses of the day as much as we can. Army in the 1940's, Oklahoma in the 1950's (we bookended both sides of their 57 game winning streak), Michigan State 1960's, Alabama in the 1970's, Miami in the 1980's, Florida State in the 1990's.

Historically, our best teams have had very difficult schedules. Our last national title team in 1988 played four of the final top ten. We had tough schedules in 1973, 1977, and 1993 as well. I think that's why a lot of ND fans are clamoring for difficult schedules again and really (really really) want to start playing SEC teams again. We have the talent - hell, we just put 8 players in the draft - but some of the schedules between 2005 and 2011 were putrid and weren't forcing us to raise our game.

Our previous AD was a sniveling cockroach and tried to water down our schedules as much as possible, and with how long it takes contracts to roll off, we're just now getting back to beefed up schedules. We played a fairly difficult schedule last year and have a pretty tough slate this year: Michigan, Stanford, UNC, @ Florida State, @ Arizona State, Louisville, @ Southern Cal. We just rolled off the Oklahoma series and have a 4 game slate with Texas rolling on next year and another series with Michigan State two years later. We'll have one or two of FSU, Clemson, Miami, and VT every year. We have SC and Stanford every year. It looks like this UGA series will get done soon.

Other than UGA, I'd like to play Auburn. We've never played them (only Big 6 we've never played), and I think they'd be a fun opponent. I've been to games at Jordan-Hare, and it's a cool place to play. I'd bet they are the second-most likely team we'd play after UGA.

I'm not really criticizing, that is the deal everyone wants (name opponents who aren't necessarily even matches).
