This.

Was wondering if Williams was able to progress much this offseason. If the upperclassman of the bunch isn't running away with the QB competition....you can pretty much mail it in for the guy. I had always just assumed that Fitz would be the guy after Dak left.

Well, whatever he is. Upperclassman would be a more correct term I guess.

If you're talking about Matt, he and his wife just signed a new 4 year deal a few days ago.

That's pretty surprising. I know he interviewed with two top 50 market stations. They must have busted the bank account to lock them down for another 4 years.

He redshirted last year because of injuries sustained when he and Dak got jumped in PCity.

Yes Williams redshirted a year. Staley without a doubt has the best arm of all 4 QB's at MSU. A strong and accurate arm too. But he does not fit Mullens offense as he is more of a pro style drop back passer and can't really run. Mullen wants a duel threat QB. In practice he just didn't have the legs to run for yards or the instincts. But whoever gets him that runs a different offense is getting a steal. Kid can throw all day and I do mean deep too with accuracy.

ETA: Nick Tiano is probably the best QB on campus. He does everything well but just a frosh. He has shocked a lot of people and the team has really rallied around him. He's probably the future for MSU one day along with our current QB commit. In the meantime, Fitzgerald is pretty darn good himself. He picks up things fast and has a natural skill in making good decisions.

Marietta Georgia. He was a 3 star that kinda went under the radar. Kid can throw a damn football, trust me.

ESPN had him as a 4 star but they're pretty much garbage.

I remember hearing a lot of hype coming out of high school about his arm.

I guess he would have ended up being another Tyler Russel for MSU. Good arm that can move the ball....but just wouldn't be able to run Dan's offense the way that it should.

I was really hoping it wasn't him that would transfer. I thought he was going to win the starting job. It's my understanding that he's free to transfer to other SEC schools too. I wouldn't want him playing against us.

If I were an SEC coach instead of a shitty beat writer....I wouldn't have a problem with him going to another SEC school so long as he doesn't play us regular season over the next year or two.

To be honest, he was likely never going to win the starting job. Yes he has the pure best arm but he just can run as well as we had hoped. He's a natural pocket passer though.

I had hoped he would stay because of his throwing abilities. Like maybe if you are behind 10 points late in a game etc you throw him in. But he wants to be a starter, not a backup. I wish him the best. Great guy with character. A little bird told me several weeks ago he might be transfering and that Mullen thought he had NFL potentional and that the right offense would serve him well.
