I will let you do the leg work, but Auburn hasn't underperformed as much as Auburn fans like to think we have and we have over performed significantly many times.

As much as I hate to admit it, this is true. It's hard to see, because Auburn has been both over-ranked and under-ranked a lot. Pollsters never get it right with them.

Those teams listed seem like some of the most successful in that time span though. Except for Notre Dame and Michigan

and I understand that nearly the entire offense is back, but do you remember last year's offense? It wasn't exactly good.

In eight conference games, LSU managed to score 19.1 points per game. The only SEC team to do worse was Vanderbilt. And it's not like the quarterback situation has been solved. Hell, with the legal drama still surrounding Anthony Jennings, it's cloudier than ever before.

It stands to reason that veteran players, with an extra offseason of coaching, would improve.

Also, there is no legal drama surrounding Jennings. Writer did not do his research.

What's so funny? You just proved that we aren't the most underachieving program. Thanks

Rankings aren't always a good indicator. Just look at you team last season. Yeah, y'all started #12 and finished #9, but I think it's safe to say Georgia was easily the most talented team in the East and yet failed to win it.

I agree with you. I just think it's silly to look at UGA and say they are the most underachieving team in the land. Especially when you look at how the admins have handled the program as a fundraiser instead of trying to bring home championships.

Notre Dame

Could go 0-12 this year and would be pre-season ranked next year.

Ranked 11 this season after 8-5 last year.

I wonder how much this list would change if teams were ranked into the top 50 or even all the way through. It's true all the top perennially overrated teams have at some point in the timeframe won or been extraordinarily close to national title(s), but its worth pointing out up until last year, winning a national title was a two part formula, and being ranked highly in the polls as early in the season as possible was every bit as necessary as actually winning all or nearly all the games you played.

Your point is valid but as a Tennessee fan I don't think you are justified making it.

10. Miami (Fl)

Ok I'm confused. ALL of these teams (sans Notre Dame) have won at least one national title in that time span, and Notre Dame won in '88 and had a national title apparance in 2012, so how are these teams overrated?

You notice these are all major programs. Don't you have to be preseason ranked to be overrated?

I'd assume almost every team finishes above or below their preseason rank, not at the exact same spot. so being a top program that is consistently ranked in the preseason why wouldn't they historically be overrated more often than teams that don't have as many preseason rankings to not live up to? shite bama has been number 1-2 every year recently, so if they don't win the national championship they are overrated. Yet the half of the SEC that doesn't even start the season in the polls have nothing to worry about.

Can't be over rated if you aren't even rated.

Ex: let's say LSU is ranked preseason number 15 for the next 10 years straight, and 5 times we finish higher and 5 times we finish lower. That means we were "overrated" 5 times.
Then you take into account the large majority of FBS won't even be in the preseason rankings 5 times at all in that 10 yr stretch. They will exceed expectations as well as underachieve some years just like us. They just won't be documented to put on a list though.
Of course top programs will be the most consistently "overrated"

Other teams that are over rated due to their name is the Yankees, Dallas Cowboys, and the Lakers

How is LSU 9th all time when they only started playing football in 2000?

Tulane is their rival?

But in all seriousness, you guys did have an undefeated season in '58 or '59.

We are ranked 11?

This is the first preseason ranking in years. How have we been overrated?
