Well, given the expectations and his recruiting ranking, would Frazier qualify as overrated?

Coming into last season, yeah. But now, no one thinks he has any chance to be good

FAIL..he is not overrated. He was a true freshman that did what he needed to do. He was just over-shadowed by another true freshman...

I'm not saying he didnt have a good season or isn't going to be productive...I just thnk some our fans overrate him

Jeff Pagan - Hype has been on him for 2 years, though he's just a good runstopper.

He will be a first round pick.

Adrian Hubbard. His upside is immense. He loafs way to much and needs a ton of polishing though.

OJ Howard has also been getting a lot of hype over the last few months, but he may not even start. If you can't block, you're not starting at H-Back.

dude has never played in a real game and he's the most overrated guy on the team? come on now

More hype than Lamichael Fanning, who gets half the playing time that Pagan does?

The most overhyped player on Bama is Adrian Hubbard. He's projected as a 1st rounder and he's done nothing to warrant that, so far.

Based on what? His 20 tackles last season? Or his 1 sack?

I will say this in defense of Vinnie Sunseri...Alabama got the best Sunseri out there.

I don't remember him being rated very high. He does have a bit of a cult following within the 'Bama fanbase, though.

The 3-4 Defensive End has to be least glorious position on the football field. The position is one that doesn't get a lot of sacks and doesn't even get that many tackles.

Pagan does an excellent job at what the 5 technique should do. He split time last year, but will start this year. I fully expect him to play at a high level. You just don't see stats from that position. I wouldn't be surprised to see Pagan have a similar/better season as Dareus did in 2010.

34 tackles, 11 for a loss, and 4.5 sacks. #3 pick in the draft. Those were Marcel's stats for 2010.

Yeah, because that's exactly what I posted

It's gonna be nitpicking for most on Bama because:

1) There aren't a lot of superstars
2) There aren't a lot of bad players

quote:

Other than being billed as the most athletic and ripped lineman, I haven't seen that much around Fanning. He's always expected to step up, but I haven't seen anyone saying that much more.

People were calling Pagan a future 1st round pick in '11, which would have been this past draft. Other than being a reliable 3rd rotating End, he hasn't exactly warranted much publicity. Yet he's got as much, if not more, than Ed Stinson.

Don't bother trying to talk football sense into people like that. It is just wasted effort.

I can understand some of Bama's fans disappointment with KB7, but no way he is worse than Sunseri

Seriously? Sunseri struggled in a couple of games, but he was solid, especially in run defense. The guy was not rated high coming out of HS, and he has exceeded his expectations already, IMO.

Last season it was John Jenkins, not sure we really have anybody too hyped up this year that really shouldn't be. Maybe John Theus if he still sucks arse at pass blocking.

well, you did bring him up in a "most overrated player" thread.

oh, other than that. people were saying he has the potential to be a 3 year player. Year three is coming up and he hasnt cracked the starting line up.

i dont remember that. i remember pagan coming in as a bit of a question mark because he was coming off knee surgery in HS.

well, Ed Stinson gets no love from the media. I think he deserves more acknowledgement. he's solid on the DLine. He'd probably get a lot more love if he had a catchy name or nickname. Maybe somebody can work on that for him.

I'm pretty sure he was Mr. Football in two different states. He wasnt projected to be a program changer, but he was a well known commodity and played in one of the national HS all-star games. If a guy like that had signed with Auburn or Tennessee this past year he would be being used as more than one user's sig image today.

John jenkins was fine up until he had 2 games against cut blocking schemes. after that, he was tentative on the line of scrimmage and preferred to chase plays down from the backside.

Kwame had some bad games.

But our biggest issues were the ilb's. they made life difficult on themselves and the safeties in run support.

I mentioned he was getting some early hype, which may or may not be warranted. Pagan was my offering to the thread, I had just mentioned Howard in the same post. To scoff at it because he hasn't played a game yet is the same reason I can scoff at his hype. He was not the main focus of my post, just an off comment.

He was all body out of high school, not everyone wanted to hear that though. He was physically outstanding, but nothing flashy on the field. And IIRC the statement made about him being a 3 year player had an attached caveat, one which has not been reached apparently.

quote:

He was listed in several "early next season" mocks, as he was expected to step into the starting lineup earlier than he has. I got my years mixed up(and I apologize for that), but he was expected to slide into the starting role last year and be a returning starter for '13.

It's not that Pagan is a bad player, he's really good. Though for someone to earn that hype without starting a game is pretty heavy praise.
