I honestly think I had kind of confused Eric Mack with Leon Hart...or rather, confused them both as a Leon Hart-like players. Hart was particularly rough because he was the only elite recruit that year. Regardless, I'm not trying to be disrespectful to AU players that endured tragedies so I removed them.

Chris Davenport actually tirned into a decent roght tackle his senior year. Was a starter and did is a fone job. Just was not quick enough for defense.

You dont get drafted in top 5 of you are overrated

... Tim Couch and Jamarcus Russell weren't just top five, but #1 overall, Ryan Leaf at #2... Ok sure, you might try to argue that they're QBs. KiJana Carter was #1 overall as a RB in 95 and did next to nothing. Blair Thomas at #2 overall in 90... Hell Trent Richardson was 3rd overall in 2012.. you're not trying to tell me he wasn't overrated are you?

To think that draft position has any relevance on hype/reality implies that NFL teams and front offices are infallible. They make mistakes. They mis-evaluate players. Not saying that *will* be the case with Fournette, but to think it's impossible for a top 5 pick to be overrated is just silly.

You are quite right and beat me to it.

But I would also have to add Derek Watson.

There's the problem. English dudes are too effeminate to have the balls for American football in any position outside of a kicking one.

Fournette is going to make bamas ole superstar runningback tj yeldon ride the pine in jax.

Chris Ivory already made Yeldon ride pine. Don't try to give that credit to LF7. Also, Yeldon doesn't have to have NFL success to be remembered fondly by Bama fans. He was 3-0 in college against LSU, including the 2012 game (you might remember big plays he made in that one). He played well against LSU, something Fournette never did against Bama. Also, Yeldon will stay in the league for 4-6 more years as a role player. Not too bad.

Fournette is better than any rb alabama has ever had

NFL MVP Shaun Alexander says hi. Get back to us when Fournette has over 9,400 yards rushing and 100+ TDs in his NFL career.

Also, just looking at college careers, Alexander ran for 296 yards against LSU in one game as a FR. Did LF7 get that many yards total (receiving and rushing) against Bama in his entire career?

I know Tennessee's

My first thought was Drew Richmond. However, he played one of the most difficult positions as a true freshman and then injured for half the season last year, so I don't think we've really seen his true potential. This year will be a tell if he's a bust or not.

With that being said, I'd say our current most overhyped recruit (when he signed) would be Dillon Bates. I believe he was a 4* coming out of HS, but going into his fourth season is barely cracking the two deep. He does alright on kick-off coverage?

No. People like to point this out but anyone that watched Arkansas football during that time knows that this doesn't mean schitt. Mcfadden and F.Jones won those games. Period.

It wasn't Mitch's fault. Nutt's offenses were run first and did not rely on QB talent. Why do you think they call him the QB killa. Hell Robert Johnson would have been 8-0 during that time.

The only mistake Mitch Mustain made was to follow Gus to Fayetteville. They were not going to tell the narcissistic Nutt how to run his offense even though Gus was hired as OC!

You're thinking of another guy named like Cordell Stewart or something like that. Davenport transferred to Tulane and couldn't even start for them.

LSU has quite a few:

Guys to never play:

Chris Davenport 5*
Chauncey Aghayere 5*
Ed Paris 5*
Clifton Garrett 5*
Travonte Valentine 4* (the unicorn)

Guys that played but never lived up to hype:

Russell Sheppard 5*
Anthony Johnson 5*
Craig Loston 5*
Terrance Tolliver 5*
Brandon Harris 4*
Jordan Jefferson 4*

To be fair to the second group, Sheppard and the QBs were CLM casualties cuz he had no idea what to do with them. And Loston, Johnson, and Tolliver were decent but never the 5* studs they were cracked up to be.

Always felt sorry for Powlus. Kid was a pro-style QB who played under Lou Holtz, the genius who tried to run the option in the NFL. Broke every passing record at Notre Dame and still couldn't live up to the hype.

I remember the kicker at FSU. Good call on that one.
