I’ve long thought that Alabama was the premiere brand and program in cfb, but recent history is suggesting otherwise.

It is interesting how a team that only lost by a total of 4 points total on the road got left out of the playoffs for a team that lost by 22 points at home.

It made me think, why did the committee pick Ohio state over Alabama?

Is it because the Sec West is so bad this year? It is really bad and thankfully the East has done its part to maintain the integrity of the conference.

but is that it?

Pretty clear that the committee thinks Ohio state is a better brand than Bama. And while that is a subjective perception, at the end of the day things like brand presiteige are in the eye of the beholder.

And the committee has spoken

On the selection show the other day, Rece Davis said Ohio State is 4-1 in the debates for the last couple of spots in the playoffs. Only one time have they not snuck in, so they have gotten the benefit of the doubt more than other program. Hopefully Georgia just destroys them so in the future they don’t always get the benefit of the doubt.

Suppose the TCU pick left bama out of the CFP and not Ohio State. I am well aware of the rankings and seedings but suppose it was TCU

Alabama is more prestigious than Ohio State. Alabama goes back but Ohio State does not rise till after WWII and University of Chicago in the B1G decides to deemphasize sports including CFB where the Maroons are the lead dog.

- More eyeballs in the B1G than the SEC
- B1G has lobbied hard for 2 B1G since they were shut out and pushed for expansion
- SEC / Alabama fatigue

Looking at how the B1G scheduled the committee rewarded weak scheduling but let the B1G get away with it.

Bama and it’s not even close! Take away Bama’s dominance the past 10-15 years, and it’s still Bama. OSU is propped up by ESPN yearly. Besides Bama, other blue bloods ahead of OSU include..
USC
Michigan
ND
Texas
Oklahoma
Hell, I’ll even say Tennessee!

I think you're right. This isn't even only about Alabama.

The committee literally said they value the B1G over the SEC and many dumbass arse fans agreed with them buying into the 2 vs 1 loss nonsense.

Their last game was a 22 point loss at home. Smh

The Ohio State and it isn't even close. The main reason CBS dumped the SEC was to get Ohio State. The Alabama brand was not strong enough to prevent that.

Ohio State will still be standing tall long after the Saban era is over.

This is a good point

Before Saban, Alabama was irrelevant for 2 decades

Ohio state has had Tressel, Urban, and now Day winning at a high level with the first two getting a natty and Day having the chance at one early in his HC career

That’s even a stronger case for Ohio state being the better brand

Back in 2014 Ohio state got picked over TCU

Bama can’t even out muscle TCU

Georgia and Tennessee fans have so much in common. A year or two of success and they think they have been THERE forever. How many long years did the West have to carry the SEC? Almost forever? It is about time the East carried some of the weight.

The Blueblood brand is Bama and always will be Bama.

Just think that the committee decided that Alabama with (2) losses would have been in the CFP instead of Tennessee. Even though the Vols beat Alabama. I know their QB is out for the year, and they got boat raced by Ga and SC. But they have (2) losses on the season too and beat Bama head to head.

I guess straight up beating a team does not matter anymore. Especially if that team is Alabama. They got their mulligan in the BCS era in 2011 against LSU and always will if the committee can slide them in. They will always get the benefit of the doubt. I mean LSU beat Bama and was destroyed in Tiger Stadium by Tennessee so the Vols should be ranked above Bama in Gump logic.

Brand?

Are they supposed to put a two-loss team in over a one-loss team based on brand?

Is the committee supposed to consider "all of the seasons" or the season in question?

This seems like a really big leap to take a shot at Bama.

Hmmm, I know, I’ll dickride the team my team is about to play in order to troll the team that is in the sugar bowl, and has no impact on my team currently.

What an absolute cuckold.
