I would just change "very important regular season game" to "the most important regular season game", and I would add LSU beat Alabama in Tuscaloosa whereas Bama beat LSU on a neutral field. Just trying to make the comparison fully complete and objective.

Um...no. The most important regular season games turned out to be the losses by OSU, Stanford, and possibly Oregon. LSU beat Alabama by a field goal in overtime in Tuscaloosa. Alabama had non-consensual sex in LSU's arse and mouth in Baton Rouge, which is only a "neutral field" for LSU if your concept of "neutral field" is the same as your concept of "objective."

Neither.

Auburn beating USCe in Columbia. No one knows how that happened, except for Stephen Garcia.

While all this is true....the problem here is the victim was passed out drunk when the crime occurred.....It is uncanny how the game actually mirrored the incident in Krystal Burger.

ETA you must have been drunk too the game was in NOLA btw

The close loss to LSU was being equally displayed as support for Bama even playing in the BCSNC. Interesting how now all of a sudden that same outcome "pales in comparison" to the BCSNC outcome.

Great point. Before the BCS matchup was even announced, the LSU win over Bama was viewed as Bama's best "win".
Now that win isn't impressive at all.

At the time of both games, anyone with a brain knew (or thought we knew) the NC was on the line. Don't be retarded.

The NC was on the line in ONE game. Therefore the stakes are very different. Don't be retarded.

Come on, be serious. It was no doubt a huge game, but a regular season game 8 is never going to have the same stakes as the national championship game.

Not entirely true, a lot of people were talking about the possibility before the game. It did seem unlikely though.

I would also include environment on the list of things to consider. Game 1 was 90% pro bama, Game 2 was 50/50.

I think environment should be considered. LSU going into Tuscaloos and winning was definitely impressive in that respect. I thought everyone was saying the Superdome was definitely a pro-LSU crowd. The TV commentators all seem to think it was at least 60-40 LSU. Maybe it just seemed 50-50 or more pro-Bama to you because of how the game went and who was left in the building in the 4th quarter. Still, we can give a slight adv to LSU on the environment category.

Also, being the loser going into a rematch is an advantage you have to consider.

LSU fans pointed me to all kinds of stats before the game that completely disproved this theory. This point is very weak.

The Superdome that night was as neutral as it gets. Very rarely do you see a stadium exactly 50/50 and this is precisely what it was. Don't be stupid about that.
And why all the gay sex imagery? Bama gumps really are f'd up.

Already beat you, went 13-0, and won the SEC. You really think a 18 yr old could rationalize emotionally why they had to beat you guys again.

I think my two year old daughter could rationalize that.

No one really thought that Bama would get the mulligan of all mulligans after losing at home on that stage....be happy and move on.

I am happy. I didn't start a thread saying that a 3 point OT win in the regular season = a 21 point beatdown in the NCG.

I'd like to see those stats. The only times it has happened in college footbal for a national title, the loser of game 1 always won the second game and ultimate title.

First game showed teams were pretty even talent wise. Second game showed with equal talent a very good football coach can kick an average football coach's arse by making adjustments

Please don't be stupid in thinking that "home field advantage" only consists of number of fans in the stands. Travel, overall hostility of the environment in the days leading up to the game (especially in bowls) and familiarity with the environment all play into it.

Experts give 3-5 points for Home field. So, I'll take the max from Bama in the first game (but you don't get the overtime points, sorry), so I have the final score of the two games at 22-6. Congrats, you still lose.

Soooo, by this logic, the less Bama fans there are in the crowd, the better of a chance they have of winning? And the more LSU fans in the crowd, the worse off LSU is? I guess LSU is lucky the first game wan't played in Baton Rouge or LSU would have lost by half a hundred.
