Everybody knows the REC is working the numbers. Having dropouts mysteriously apply and get rejected to make the acceptance rate look better.

Far be it from me to help the Bammers out here, but for a good student coming out of high school that's out of state, you'd be hard pressed to tell me this isn't a good value. Have a friend whose daughter is on the Presidential and going to school tuition free.
Bookmarked post.
My daughter will fall into this category. This is very enticing. It's definitely worth a look, especially in the next couple of years when she's picking her school.

It's a philosophical quandry... on one hand, my heart says Buck Fama. On the other, my wallet says Roowll Tahd Pawl.
I'm a long way off as ours isn't even a year yet, so who the hell knows what the landscape will look like and whether it's even available, but for sure if I had a kid soon to be heading off, I'd be giving it a strong look.

Shocking, schools that place lots of engineers, who generally get higher paying entry level jobs, have higher early career earnings that schools that place a lot of teachers, writers, nurses, accountants, entrepreneurs, etc.
I have news for you, it isn't just the early career. Engineers tend to make quite a bit more than teachers, writers, nurses, and accountants at any given point in their career. And probably a higher percentage go on to be entrepreneurs as well.

I mean, I love Athens, and will defend that it's the greatest college town, but it's not like it's by fricking lightyears or anything. Most every school in the SEC you'd be hard pressed not to be able to find a way to have a good time. If you have daughters, maybe UTk isn't in the cards, but otherwise they've all got their charms and upsides. (Didn't love Gainesville myself, but enough people swear by it, I am sure I just didn't go to the right places).
Ultimately, go where you are likely to have the best job placement options. If you're not thinking about this with your college decision, you've missed the point before you even started.

Teachers and nurses, sure. Those people knowingly take jobs that will pay less. But they are necessary professions that flagship state colleges have to train for society, regardless of if it drops their median salary.
Accountants, maybe those who go work outside of public. Partners in any mid to large firm are doing better than most. Anyone working in public accounting has a salary that jumps at rates well above the majority of professions. The flipside is the weed out period continues until you become a partner.

Two SEC schools in the top 15. Your back tired yet? Mines getting a little sore.

This is not a hard one.You spend all that money on players and don't get a sniff at a western division title much less a SEC or National Title. They couldn't even enjoy being ranked #1 for a few weeks. Now with the Money all gone, they will go the way off the other cheaters like Miami, USC and SMU.
Oh Damn, My Bad. I thought you were talking about football not education.
