And, as noted before, if "early career earnings" isn't weighted against COL, it's an irrelevant stat.
My salary here in the Shenandoah Valley and in NYC is the "same", but in NYC I'd be lucky to have a studio apartment, instead of a two story house and two new cars.

And my initial salary was probably 10-15% less than my friends that became engineers, but after 7 straight years of 10-15% raises at a public firm I now make as much or more than most of them. As with all of these, there are so many variables that people have to take everything with a grain of salt.
It's still insane how much more college is now even than when I was there 8-10 years ago. Especially out of state.

Just like any list like this, including ones with completely different results.

College is cheap compared to the ROI, kids spend more on college than they need to now.
Kind of like the 60k truck.

BYU all in for a 1 year is only $18,500? Gonna have to consider making my kids act Mormon for 4 years.

Bama's ranking is a product of them trying way too hard to improve their academic standing by accepting virtually every student that applies and has a HS diploma or equivalent. They've been taking in way too many students faster than they can grow to keep up and it's going to end up having the opposite effect they're going for and hurt them.

Doesn't sound accurate
Acceptance rate 51%
Median SAT/ACT Score 1125/26

They are also getting a large number of increased applications, so while they do accept a lot(number, not percentage), they have upped their standards by quite a bit in the last 10

That isn't really true at all. Almost all of the additional students have been middle-higher end out of state kids who don't get in at Georgia, UNC, Florida, Texas, UVA, etc. We are giving them tons and tons of scholarship money to beat out their secondary options. They have actually made our ACT/SAT numbers rise the last 5 years or so.
The in-state numbers are almost exactly the same as they have been for 10 years.
From discussions with people who know it's a harder admit than it was 10 years ago, when basically anyone with a halfway decent GPA and/or ACT score would get in.

Bama's acceptance rate is 20% lower than auburns and even lower than Georgia which has free tuition for all kids with a certain GPA
I made a mistake...Auburns acceptance rate is THIRTY FREAKING PERCENT higher than Bama's LINK

This discussion is creeping toward Iron Puppets territory, so it might be a good time to abort.

Far be it from me to help the Bammers out here, but for a good student coming out of high school that's out of state, you'd be hard pressed to tell me this isn't a good value. Have a friend whose daughter is on the Presidential and going to school tuition free.
quote:
PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLAR
A student with a 32-36 ACT, 1400-1600 old SAT score or 1450-1600 new SAT score and at least a 3.5 GPA will be selected as a Presidential Scholar and will receive the value of tuition, or $107,800 over four years ($26,950 per year). Students graduating with remaining tuition scholarship semester(s) may utilize these monies toward graduate school and/or law school study at UA.
Hell, if I'd have known about that shite when I graduated HS (not sure if it existed in the same format then), loyalties be damned, this would have been at least as good as the HOPE and doesn't seem like I'd have had a GPA threshold to stay above.

Damn. I graduated 5 years ago. Based on those averages, I'm doing alright.
Prob because I talk to a lot of Dallasites who give off an aura of money, but are really $30,000 millionaires.
