Agreed Kentucker. Does Purdue excite me? No. But getting into B1G territory for recruiting purposes makes all the sense in the world.

Not only is Purdue terrible, they're quite possibly the most boring major conference team in all of college football.

There is an art to picking shitty OOC opponents, and this is just failure. Schedule UNC, UVA, Illinois, Colorado or some other probable win that at least makes it seem half interesting on paper.

I like the idea of beating up on B1G teams - gives us exposure to kids in the upper-midwest who like the idea of playing in the SEC

Who knows? Maybe Sumlin will get a call from Mama and go back to his Alma Mater.

Purdue is actually a great school with some really nice people. They used to be a decent football team but have just fallen into the abyss. There are a lot worse teams you could schedule and I do think Mizzou will get some recruiting mileage out of it, raiding Big 1G territory is going to be key to your success long term.

A&M isn't going to schedule BDF teams not named Texas anytime soon. Just no benefit in it and if we lose it would be a disaster. Besides, have you ever been to Lubbock or Manhattan? They make Starkville look like paradise.

I think it's a brilliant move on Mizzou's part to be scheduling the lower rung of the Big X for OOC games. Obviously the Tigers will win on the field but the biggest wins will come on the recruiting front. The Big X states on Missouri's borders are ripe for the picking, recruiting wise.

Yup. Chicago is the new Texas for Mizzou.

We played what was actually a pretty fun and well done non-con rivalry with Illinois for 6 years in the 2000s. Played at a neutral site in St.Louis which sits on the Missouri-Illinois border, called it the "Arch Rivalry" game and had a split crowd 50-50 a la Florida-Georgia or Texas-OU. It was, however, indeed a surefire win, and Mizzou won all 6 contests until Illinois finally chickened out and discontinued the series because they were tired of starting the season 0-1 every year. If and when they are willing to resume the series it would take precedence over all this Indiana/Purdue crap we've been screwing with as far as playing the B1G in the non-con.

Honestly, Chicagoland has been a no-mans land owned equally by pretty much the entire B1G and nearby midwestern states for its entire existance and I don't think that will ever change. Trust me Mizzou has looked to Illinois/Chitown for years but the simple fact is there is a lot more depth of talent to be had in Texas/Florida/Georgia type areas than there is in the Land of Lincoln. Too many teams competing for a smaller pool of players than you might think up in Chicago/Illinois. And the kids from Texas we recruited tended to be way more skilled, I think same is true of kids from FL/GA/LA etc. High school football is just more advanced down there.
