I dont know this time. I think he understands that if he goes cheap, and this next guy flops, that it could be his arse on the line. There is way too much at stake at this point.

-20% Chance on Tressel. And if the show-cause is over, it is a real shame too.

Y'all need to dump your flea market AD, if you want to play in the biggs.

I thought the show cause was 5 years? That's off the top of my head though, don't really know.

I'm only being slightly facetious, but everything I said was pretty accurate. Our AD absolutely will not consider someone with a blemished record (infractions-wise). I'm not a fan of our current AD to say the least.

If you want a profitable, clean, nicely run athletics department, he's great! If you want to compete on a level playing field with other schools in order to win, he's the WORST.

We are expanding the stadium. He knows he will need a big name to sell all of them out again.

It is. I looked it up now. On top of that, he is 60, and he isnt really even in Football anymore, I dont think he is much of an option.

A successful season can sell tickets quicker than a big name. Just ask another recent invitee.

Well, Alden almost went to North Carolina a couple of years ago. He's a good administrator. But you're right, he's not prone to flashy hires. This time should be different though - Alden is a business man, and knows what's on the line if the program slips.

And the point about assistants was well made. A proven HC is likely more Alden's style, he's not a big risk-taker, would rather play it safe.

And this is just my opinion, but I think Alden knows exactly what he's doing in this situation. I believe he forced Pinkel to get rid of Yost, which he absolutely did not want to do. And by giving Pinkel his way on promoting from within for OC, he basically gave him enough rope to hang himself. If it works out, fantastic. If not, it was completely his decision, and he has to own it. That, combined with not extending his contract, is a really strong message. This year is a definite improvement, or else. It also gives Alden time to get all the necessary parties thinking in the same direction. Like I said - he's a skillful administrator.

But not a big name proven HC. He hired Pinkel from Toledo, Mike Anderson from UAB, and Frank Haith (who?) from Miami. None of his hires have been "exciting". The only "exciting" hire (and high risk too) was when he hired Quin Snyder, and got burned bad.

I think Rich Rod would be a good hire. Even though its not possible. Just In a different scenario. Guy can recruit for sure

We should try to get Bjork back. He's from Alden's tree and apparently doesn't mind waving the money around.

Alden would hire someone like Tressel, but not someone like Petrino. I'm sure he was aware of Haith's 'issues' at Miami when he hired him. Tressel's trangressions seem similar to Haith's to me, only Tressel got caught red handed in the lie.

Pipedream: snag Chip after he fails in the NFL.

Well Spurrier and Saban only got two years...can Mizzou wait that long?

Here's a good read on Hudspeth.

Think along the lines of Matt Painter. The reason he isnt our basketball coach isnt because of Mike Alden's failings.

Again, I think Alden will be hard selling again. I understand the criticism, but when you look between the lines, you can see that there is WAY too much on the line. That is a scenario that was not the case in other hires.
