This was always going to be a smaller class, and we lost out to priority recruits to Alabama and Oklahoma, which is not a shock. Mizzou still has landed a good class avg wise and some instant impact type players. I fully expect the transfer portal to be utilized heavily this offseason.

I can't tell yet if last year was the outlier for Drink's recruiting, or if this year is. His recruiting is mainly what had me worried about him last year. I'm still undecided on him overall as a coach. He took over a built App. State, so I don't particularly use his one year there as good evidence.

Insider info for ya: being 8 point dogs doesn’t automatically mean we will lose the game. It will be a nice win and momentum builder for the Tigers

Has drink started slower at mizzou than I would like, yes. But hes still doing things(slowly) that are encouraging. Last year we easily, I mean fricking easily, win the bowl game and get to 7 wins if everyone decided to play that game. It happens with bowl games, unfortunately. Hes also addressed, and early signs looks like he has improved the woes from last year. Another positive sign.

You're not wrong in regards to Drink. This season will show us quite a bit about his skills when it comes to play design and coaching. I think he is a good recruiter, but this past year has been tough. Hopefully it bounces back before December.

This season is our make it our break it season with him. If he fails this year, he'll quickly find himself on the hot seat. If he is able to pull off 7 or 8 wins? He'll be given the time and breathing room needed to continue to build his program.

He is still a very good recruiter. A big reason this year's class ranking is lower is due to the fact that it's just going to be a smaller class. As far as on-field results go, this is the year we need to see a step forward. He raised a LOT of eyebrows around here with his play-calling and the fact that he played a QB with a bad leg injury that made him completely immobile and incapable of going through his throwing motion correctly. Additionally, he is 0-2 on DC hires.

This year, he has the horses at the skill positions, the defense appears to be MUCH improved, and our QB is healthy. If Drink is the coach we hope he is, this team could surprise a lot of people. If not, it will be a 5ish win team.

That's a pretty accurate assessment.

I don't think it's JUST a small class. Last year, you only had 18 commits. But half of them were 4* and a 5* got thrown in the mix. Arkansas hasn't had a 5* in like a decade when we signed Alex Collins. How many are you expected to sign for '23?

Just watched his highlight reel. Virtually every defender he blocked ended up on his arse. Almost felt sorry for them high school baws who had to line up against him

Per usual, open the thread and it's just a bunch of Mizzou and Arkansas fans arguing...but please keep saying it's not a rivalry

It's mostly been me engaging the past page, lol.

ARMOgeddon doesn't feel forced one bit to me. It's probably my favorite game of the year.

No, this class is definitely a lower average star rating as well. However, the size of the class being smaller does also affect overall rating quite a bit, which is why I said it's a big factor. I'm not sure exactly how many we are expected to sign but I know it's supposed to be relatively quite small.

At 5PM when Reichert is on board, that will make 4/11 commits 4* (with a couple 3* that are expected to get some degree of a bump) and still have a few irons in the fire that look promising to bring the class back up.

That being said, even if we get another 4* or 2 and have a 3* or 2 get the bumps, this class still would fall short of last year's class, but of all the things I will take issue with Drink over, falling a little short the best recruiting class in school history that he himself pulled in last year isn't high on the list.

And one last point... Burden was committed elsewhere, as was Dom Lovett, and Drink flipped them late. Joshua Manning literally had an announcement set up for K-State and Drink convinced him to wait, and he was committing to Mizzou 2 weeks later. I'm not convinced it's over with some of these in-state guys that committed to the blue bloods if Mizzou has success on the field this season.

After tonite, we are going to be at 11 commits, 4 being composite 4*, and Kohl's #2 ranked kicker. I don't know if Mizzou will go more than 15 hs recruits. Ideal world they probably would, but lost on 3-4 higher ranked guys that might have changed that number.

Pinkel's cancer and then 4 years of Barry Odom left us pretty far behind where we should be. The fact we even made a bowl last year is pretty impressive for where we've been.

We will see how it goes, but there's no arguing with the talent Drink has brought in. We just have to see if he can actually coach it (I have my doubts).

As for K State - that's a team that would give most Power 5 teams fits. Certainly a team like this year's Ole Miss

Rational, and reasonable. I like to see that from my fellow Mizzou fans. No one else here will, LOL !

BTW welcome to The Rant.

SP+ has this as the 3rd toughest non-con road matchup in the SEC this season.

Alabama @ Texas and Arky @ BYU listed as higher ranked teams.

FPI is not has high on ksu, but still this is a decent team.

Salty arse team? More like salty arse sold out stadium. They truly hate us there for deserting them in the eternally rotting Big 12.

Due to that history, it just means more to both groups. In my opinion, Mizzou should include at-least one of these old B12 matchups in its non-con slate each year.

Why is this thread about a big 10 team and a big 12 team on the SEC forum?

I saw a quote from two different people in the department that said wait until you see the next commitment. Somebody must have silently committed a while ago. Aparently Reichert committed 3 months ago to the coaches when he was on campus too. It will be interesting to see how the class finishes.
