I haven't but I've been to Starkville several times and I know that if Gainsville has a gas station and grocery store there is a good chance it's a better place to live.

I remember Florida fans acting like they didn't want Mullen and now they are all freaking out & whining because he doesn't want them. Karma baby!!! Mullen ain't going no where. State is gonna be good for a while.

Gainesville's a weird town. I always had a love/hate relationship with it. I see why a lot of visiting fans hate it; it takes a while to figure out where everything is.
That being said, if you have a lot of money, you are two hours away from a helluvalot of things that people with money tend to like to do. There is definitely another sphere of existence in Florida for those with the money to enter it. Not saying that isn't true everywhere to some degree, but it's a lot closer to you in Gainesville than in Starkville.
Honestly though, I don't think Mullen is leaving. Sometimes a place just suits somebody for various reasons, and it seems like Dan likes the life he has up there. I know it is shocking to a lot of sports fans, but money isn't everything for a lot of these guys, not that any of them are hurting. But it isn't always as simple as just writing a bigger check.

Engie. Why in the world do you have an Ole Miss logo by your name. I thought you were a big state fan.

1. I lived in Gainesville for 7 years. I've never been to Starkville, in spite of how close it is to Tuscaloosa. So I can't make an intelligent comparison. What I can say is that Gainesville is nothing special. Unless something big has happened in the last few years, the university is all that's there that's worth mentioning. Get a short drive out of town, and you're in some areas that are every bit as backward as anywhere in the SEC. Sure, the beach is only an hour or so away. Are the Gulf beaches that far from Starkville so that it's a difference maker?
2. Unless Florida is willing to pay around $5M, MSU would match whatever UF offered. They're already paying him $3.25M...after this year they wouldn't think twice about upping that to $4M. So does Florida really want to pay $5M for Dan Mullen?
3. No one is denying that Florida is a fertile recruiting ground, but is that really that big of an issue, given that the top programs recruit nationally. Of the top 40 in Florida for the class of 2015, half are committed out of state, and several others are uncommitted. And although Mullen may not be able to continue to have MSU at such a high level, one thing is for certain...he has definitely made the program more attractive to recruits.
Maybe Mullen would like the challenge...on the other hand, maybe he wouldn't want to have anything to do with the dumpster fire that the program has become.

Florida is one of the top jobs in the country.
1. Biggest recruiting hot bed in America.
2. Huge well moneyed University
3. Rabid fan base with great facilities
4. Multi-sport success leading to great recruiting again.
5. Major SEC brand.
Mississippi State.
uh... none of those.

I really don't see many Florida fans talking about him here.
He's not exactly a unanimous darling on our own boards on other sites. Don't let one website fool you.
It seems that here, far more State fans are talking about it than us. Maybe having a coach doing the impossible this season isn't enough for you. She's not hot if just you dig her, the cool kids have to want to steal her from you. Right?

Why do you have a State logo next to your name when you are clearly a troll from God knows what fanbase?

The only fans I see obsessed with Dan's future are two sets of tigers. You chickinshits are more concerned about it than State fans. Thread after thread of others fans claiming state fans are worried. LOL Hard to believe they are so scared of little ole MSU. This is staring to reach Saban to Texas proportions.

if i made a shite ton of money, im 2 hours away from a lot of "great" places.
Id rather live in Starkville than Gaineseville , ESPECIALLY if i were rich.
I brought it up before, but where are these "world class cities" in Florida?
I think FL is largely a shithole, and i have family there.
I dont think any decision Mullen makes to move has anything to do with how great the town is, but more on his Ego and aspirations.

May be more correct than my observation. All I know is most of the "Mullen to Florida" talk on this board isn't coming from Gators. We're too busy trolling each other at the moment to troll anyone else.

There are a lot of reasons for him to stay.
1. Job Security. With the season we are having, barring a complete meltdown the next 6 games, he has secured his job for the next few years at minimum.
2. Money is a wash. UF would have to offer him 5+ mil a year to outbid us...they won't do that for Mullen.
3. Dan's wife hates Gainesville.
4. He is building his own legacy at a school that is a perennial doormat. With this breakthrough season, and our current up and coming talented recruits and current good recruiting class, he is set up to have success even after Dak leaves.
5. He has full support of our AD and fanbase. He is getting everything he asks for in facilities.
6. He isn't under as much pressure here..make a bowl game every year and compete for the West once in awhile. At UF he is expected to win championships within 2-3 years.
In all honesty, Gainesville isn't a much nicer to place to live. Sure it's better than Starkville but not enough better to justify making such a move.

Mullen will jump at the first good deal to come along. All the stars lined up this year for MSU.
It's one an done for them.

Kinda funny how peoples fear leads them to believe they know for certain what a perfect stranger to them will do.

Name 3 places that are worse than Starkville. You've got a week.

Mullen and Freeze are just the current flavor of the week. Of the two, I'd rather have Freeze.
Mullen's is getting more mention on the message boards just because he seems more attainable and MSU is less likely to sustain success than Ole Miss with Freeze's recruiting.
