This is that sites top 10 preseason poll. No LSU at all
They won't be in the postseason top 10 either.

Its amazing how LSU fans and foes alike never remember or overlook the luck Saban had at LSU, yet Miles is just a tomato can who only wins because of luck.
ALL coaches from ALL TIME have won games on 'luck'. The garbage thrown at Miles is just that, garbage. Saban's post-NC team at LSU got in the mud and pulled 3 or 4 games out of the fire that year like Miles' '08 team did.

No way Miles ranked 'above' Dabo. The former at least has some results.

The whole Miles is lucky bit is flat out incorrect.

LSU is ranked in the Top 4 of every preseason poll I have seen and they aren't even in these guy's Top 10.
I don't have a problem with LSU not being in their top 10 if it didn't include Texas A&M at #10. A&M got absolutely skull dragged in their own backyard by LSU, but they are still ranked ahead of LSU. Did A&M just get an infusion of talent and LSU lost all its talent? No. Something just ain't right.

Miles named worst coach in college FB
quote:
1. Les Miles, LSU — You could put a potted plant on the sideline at Tiger Stadium and get the same results Miles has gotten for LSU. And there would probably be better clock management. Selling his soul to the devil in exchange for wins in close games puts him over the top here.
Holy shite.. they nailed it. It's unbelievable the way the ball always seems to bounce for them. I've been saying he sold his soul for a while and was wondering if anyone else thought the same
So, why didn't the ball "bounce for us" against:
Tennessee in '05, Auburn in '06, Kentucky and Arkansas in '07, Ole Miss in '08, Penn State in '09, and Auburn and Arkansas in '10 ??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Saban certainly turned things around, but actually it was Dinardo who restarted LSU's program with solid recruiting. Saban actually inherited a ton of talent, and because he is an excellent coach, did something with it. Plus he had a very supportive administration who supported him in his capital improvements program.
But has Miles really underachieved? Look at his top 10 and top 5 finishes, bowl record, and overall record. He is in the top 5 all time winning percentage of SEC (not just LSU) coaches since the late 40s. Is he perfect? Of course not. He has made a few choices (not the many of the mythology that people assert) along the way that have made my hair white, but the bottom line is results. He has made far fewer of those bad choices than people seem to think, just that those that he has made tend to be spectactular or memorable. The biggest struggle for Miles has been the QB position, which is significant, but largely a result of the Perilloux fiasco which is still having effects. Would I like to have had at least one more SEC championship during the Miles era so far? Sure. We probably would have, but for Katrina/Rita in 2005. Is Miles the best coach ever in college football? No. But he must be actually a pretty good coach based on what he has actually achieved.
As far as underachieving, you could lay that charge against most elite coaches like Saban (even he had QB issues at LSU), Meyer, Carroll, etc. They all have had mulitiple underperforming teams. Steve Sprurrier, for all his dominance in the SEC at UF, had only one national championship.
So most of the attacks on Miles are unsupported by the record, especially when you compare him to his peers currently coaching or even historically. But his personality quirks magnify the perceptions that he isn't a good coach. His record argues otherwise.
Remember all the gloom and doom predictions that Miles would drive LSU into the ground after Saban? It hasn't happened. And without a good coach, even the "elite" programs can't sustain multiple years of success without a good coach, as plenty of elite programs have demonstrated repeatedly. USC, Alabama, Michigan, Notre Dame, Florida, and Miami have all gone through significant down periods following highly successful coaches and great achievement because the succeeding coaches couldn't maintain the level of prior success. All of those programs are generally ranked higher in national status than LSU, yet they couldn't maintain an unbroken chain of dominance. Miles has confounded his critics because so many expected him to fail (ala Coker). But that hasn't happened. And isn't just because Saban was a very successful coach at LSU. His success made it easier for whoever followed him, but as history demonstrates, success of the prior coach isn't enough to keep a program on the right track. Miles has kept LSU on the right track. The "potted plant" theory is a demonstrably false proposition.

Sort of like the $$$ flowing around AU?
AU saying anything about someone selling the soul is comical....to say the least.

great post but im not sure why but i just cant buy the fact that his insane play calls (ir hail mary aginst Auburn down by two?) are good coaching decisions... Not a flame but it just seems like the ball always bounces LSU's way only game I have seen LSU's luck turned on them was against Iowa, but the blocked extra pionts against Ole Miss and Oregon State a couple years ago are sheer dumb luck combined with great players.. LSU always seems to have a roster loaded with future NFL talent, but they seem to "underachieve" because of inconsistent QB play...
Hey dip shite, had you been at the game that nite, you would have noticed the swirling winds in Tiger Stadium.Tigers' 1st yr kicker had missed most from that range in pre game practice as well as missing a shorter FG earlier in the game.Miles made a calculated gamble and won. There was still time to attempt fg had pass been incomplete. If anyone is to blame it could be Flynn taking so long to get the play off.
You internet experts show your ignorance the more you post. Bet your football experience is like that of Heartbreak Tiger which is sitting in your daddy's lap at games nothing more.
