the only time I will give anyone a real pass on losing 1 player and it destroying them is when a team loses a starting QB who has been entrenched as the starter for a long time (for atleast 1 year) and really I'm not sure how important that is besides in a true pro style system where the qb has control over all checks and calls. in a spread system where the coach does that I do not give a pass besides timing issues.

What counts as a "pass" for you? You won't consider the loss of a player any excuse at all except in that one situation or you will consider it an excuse but not enough to get your sympathy? Football is a team sport, obviously, but I do think the impact of a single player can be disproportionate, especially in key positions. But it's still a team sport, as I said, so I get your point.

honestly that depends on the team. if state lost dak and lost a bunch of games I would understand. if you are bama and QB play is so bad you can't win games, no pass is given.

also really losing a QB is more of a problem in the NFL (see cowboys with no romo)

Okay, gotcha. I have a whole set of arguments about underappreciated positions, but that can wait for the off-season.

All anyone needs to know about this BS about Richt underperforming at UGA with "so many advantages" is that UGA was 9th in the SEC in football spending as recently as 2011. in the last year, they "opened" the purse strings so that UGA is now only 6th. Alabama spent 100mlllion more on its football operations in the last 4 years than UGA. This isn't just hardware and buildings. Bama has literally dozens more employees at pretty much every level than UGA. UGA is dead last in S and C spending. On top of that, UGA demands that players be sat as punishment for offenses that other SEC schools barely give them a side eye. it demanded that he couldn't over sign while expecting to him to kick off any unsavory players that would lead to teams with numbers closer to severe NCAA probation than 85. iT is a damn minor miracle that Richt was able to do as well as he did with this fricking administration. They are such complete fools- they demand some incredibly difficult goal and then put every roadblock up possible to keep a coach from reaching it , and then get pissy when he can only be outstanding. I am a fan of UGA, but they deserve to wander in the wilderness for the next decade after this bullshite. Smart won't know what hit him.

Great post man,....

Saban would be successful anywhere he went but it's Bama's willingness to give him basically a blank check to make it happen separates Bama from the pack.

And Henry's ACL would have been destroyed by the Sod Monster that inhabits Kneeland.
