Hodge is simply bloviating.

He is saying what he FEELS without any empirical evidence to back his claim. That's all well and good since there are lots with the same point of view. Hell, I have said all along that I think JFF is an outstanding CFB QB and won't dazzle in the NFL. My evidence is a defensive line unit, the LSU front four. JFF simply couldn't outrun or outjuke them and these linemen only get bigger and faster in the pros. I hope I'm wrong.

But back to Hodge. Saying what you FEEL on the network is just phoning your work in. There is a lot of evidence contrary to his position when based upon the college games on tape. If his baseless opinion can be considered work, tRant has a goldmine on our hands. At least the goon has a 50/50 chance of being right.

That's a bad instinct if you're going to have that in the National Football League. You have to play in the pocket with traffic around you and throw it. When traffic comes around him, he runs, and that's dangerous in the National Football League
Not like Wilson, Kaep, Cam and RG3 don't all do this successfully in the big bad NFL already.

To be fair, though, RG3 has been getting the crap beat out of him when he gets outside the pocket.

Now, you can say that might be a function of the Redskin's O-Line. Fair enough. But I don't expect Manziel to be drafted by any teams with stellar O-Lines.

It will be fun to see if he can out run NFL talent. I'm expecting to see bigger collisions. Honestly, the two times I watched him live, he looked bad.

RG3 has always been a tad injury prone though. It doesn't really have much to do with his style of play.

I think he gets drafted but it may not be as high as he and everyone thinks. I just hope it's to a team that doesn't need him immediately. He would be well served to sit behind someone like Manning or Brady and work on polishing his passing instincts before taking over a starter role. I don't think anyone thinks he lacks the tools but he does need some refinement, imo.

To me Hodge is a total a-hole, but he knows his shite.

I remember he was the only one (on espn at least) who called Vince Young and Matt Leinart being busts, and Jay Cutler as the only viable QB in that draft.

Just because I hate Hoge , I hope JFF is a ten time pro-bowler just to show he doesn't know jack about football.

Predicting a bust is the safe prediction.

The vast majority of players drafted don't have awesome careers. Busts are the norm.

Merril Hoge about to come on FirstTake (rerun from earlier this morning) and defend his remarks. I think Skip is a pretty big JFF homer so this should be good.

Yeah, I'm watching that now. Hoge doesn't mince words, I'll give him that.

I get irrationally annoyed when people keep saying "the National Football League" instead of NFL. Hoge is one of the worst about this, but a lot of ESPN NFL guys do it.
