August 30 - Commercial Appeal
KEY INFORMATION: Auburn CALLED "asking about a different transcript that was sent"....Clearly Auburn was on top of this, good job by the compliance department again...

"She admitted making the changes, yet would not provide a rationale for the changes," William White of MCS wrote in an e-mail to a fellow schools official later that day. "She was certain someone had asked her to make the changes but was reluctant to name anyone who may have been involved."
In an Aug. 10 e-mail to White, Wooddale principal Michael Kyle outlined what he said he knew. On May 18, while checking grades for errors, a teacher for a student whose name was redacted noticed that a grade had been changed from a 70 to a 76. The teacher "changed the grade back to a 70 and that was the grade on the transcript that was released," he wrote........

In her 2005 employment application, she listed a 1996 bachelor's degree in criminal justice at Ole Miss and a 1999 master's degree in education counseling, also from Ole Miss.

Wait, so the 70 was on the transcript that originally got sent out? Or was it changed back to a 70 after the counselor got caught?

Or was this not the only grade that had been changed?

If his qualification was based on the original grade JR should be playing. I am not convinced he is that this isn't just a case of JR being penalized for the counselor's incompetence. Maybe that is a naive view though.

ETA: and what is the fricking point of changing a 70 to a 76. That is just stupid.

I have no doubt that something shady probably happened. (Not saying Auburn had anything to do with it.) I just wonder if the grades on the transcript itself didn't hold him back, it was just the matter that it had been altered in the first place. Sounds like we may never know.

I doubt anything ever comes from this anyways. He'll have to spend his two years at JUCO and then hopefully come back to Auburn if they want him. I feel bad for the kid, he sounds like he really wants to be at Auburn and his dream got snatched away from him.

ETA - On the moving it from a 76 to a 70, I can see that maybe making a difference. I'm trying to look at this from both sides, for one you don't want to make a huge change because that is definitely suspicous. On the other hand, is six points in one class really enough to make the difference between qualifying? (I honestly claim ignorance on this, I'm sure it can, but the chances seem low to me.)

1 year at Prep School is also possible, but so far I have not heard a thing...

changed it from a D to a C

70-74 is a D, 75-84 is a C

I'm a little confused at to which transcript auburn got and which one they called and questioned. Could be because i'm a dumb barner, but i'm hoping it's because its early and a bit convoluted.

That's right, I was thinking about Hutcherson when I said JUCO. Hopefully JR can make it into prep school and be back next year.

Based on this paragraph:

"The audit showed that the senior counselor Ms. Yvette Lynch changed two grades — one (each from two different teachers)," he wrote. Kyle said he attempted to contact Lynch but was unsuccessful.

I think there was more than one grade changed.

As far as the 70 to 76 change, someone will have to translate the story because I can't follow it. I THINK it says the teacher saw the change and fixed it. Someone later came behind the teacher and again changed the grade, which was only discovered when the NCAA came calling.

That moves it from a D to a C. I assume it pushed his GPA over some limit.

Is this the system in TN or something? When I was in high school a 70 was just a C-. I guess it changes depending on states or specific schools.

I'm sure he will. Only the ATPB at heart will really make an issue of this.

Same here.

But it's not just unique to TN, i know some gradschools grade that way (now grated they're private so they can do whatever the frick they want) but i imagine that it's more common than you think.

This was interesting.

quote:

One month later, Kyle said, Auburn called "asking about a different transcript that was sent," presumably for Robinson. Kyle viewed the transcript and it still reflected a 70, so he ran an audit to see who changed it.

What grading scale are y'all on? Where I come from, a D is 60-69 and a C is 70-79.
