I don't see the equivalency.

College Basketball & Football are natural feeders into the professional ranks. The quality is comparable of drafted college players in those sports. The same cannot be said about college baseball where as a whole is somewhere around Single A minor league ball. Yes, you get the few kids who make the jump immediately, but a super-majority spend multiple years working there way up the ranks.

College FB & BB are the equivalent to AAA Professional Baseball.

Exactly. I like watching college baseball for what it is but the level is not very high. Comparing NFL/NBA relationships with their college sports counterparts isn't really applicable. College baseball nationally trails NCAA womens basketball in attendance. Its a niche thing in parts of the south. Just like NCAA hockey is in the north and north east. Nothing wrong with that but not many Missouri types are going to feel some kind of shame because of Mizzou baseball attendance.

There is probably a reason that college baseball has taken root so much in the south. There were no MLB teams in the south for a long while. Minor leagues were not set up like they are now back in the day. Baseball fans in the south naturally latched onto the college game.

It is what it is.

Meh. I don't argue with any of that. His main point was that it was an inferior product.

Which is what all college athletics is compared to professional.

Hey, I enjoy all baseball. Baseball is baseball to me personally but I get the larger things at play in regards to the big picture.

I had a blast watching Mizzou run off their win streak. I even told you we were gonna struggle in SEC play. Nothing wrong with having fun with that streak though. WIll things change over time for Mizzou baseball? Possibly. The SEC can rub off on Mizzou but its going to take some time.

I get what you are saying, and its true to a point. Its just that college BB is at such a low level compared to the other collefe sports. I'm not (when I lived there) driving 2 hours to watch Rookie ball when i have a professional team 20 minutes away. And this is true for 80% of the population.

I agree with this however, Columbia and Jeff City could show up to support the program a little more. Maybe that will change in time.

I get this, but that may be the difference in the south.

More college less pro options
Cost is much less

More like an identity to city/metro. No one says "Man Im a loyal Bill Dewitt follower." instead of a st louis cardinals fan. That's silly.

No I was referring more to how the taxpayers get pinched

State via taxpayer's

Rich guy via taxpayer's

In the state version you at least have the comfort of knowing they are not leaving the city or state.
