That's the point I was making in the big thread when I posted they were selling their $360,000 house in Bryan. Someone else posted that it wasn't their only house; OK, millionares don't own a great house in one place and a average, 2400sqft one somewhere else. Wealthy people own the best wherever they are. This family doesn't have the dough we have been lead to believe. I
bet Johnny has been getting all this crap, on the arm, from someone else all along.

Very interesting article.

I'm still in disbelief how obsessed the media is with Manziel.

Have never in my life seen this kind of coverage about ANY athlete. Not only about Johnny, but multiple media outlets doing in depth stories about his entire family history.

Tiger Woods maybe. All he did was get some strange. This family is looking more and more like the scum of the earth.

The media was up Tim Tebow's butt just as much. He just handled it a thousand times better.

You don't know much about old money do you?

Lots of rich people don't like to show it off. My ex GF from HS was actually from Tyler and stupid rich but she drove a 5 year old Camaro and lived in a modest apartment in CS. The family had several homes, including a really nice ski lodge in New Mexico I went with her to. Had another GF in high school that her Daddy owned well over 100k acres of land and they lived in a modest home where she drove a modest car. I dated her for a while before I even knew how loaded she was.

I think the bigger factor you should consider is they essentially bought a $360k house as a "rental" while they were in CS to watch their son play. You don't stay a millionaire too long if you are stupid with your money, my guess is they made money on the house as well since Manziel's Mom is a real estate agent (and she comes from some money too).

Old money doesn't care about showing it off, they just spend their money on what they like and don't really GAF what other people think. If anything they don't like to show off their money too much because they think it is bad form, more of an "act like you've been there" attitude.

Only because it is a player from your school being raked over the coals. He's not getting it any worse than a handful of other athletes over the past few years. The media loves a juicy story, and will not stop until public sentiment is no longer interested.

I agree with your sentiment as a whole but the Manziel's really don't come across (in articles at least) like they know how to act like they've been there before.

Ah yes, Fenton Honda. Where they held my car hostage for two months just to have a recall paint job done...

You're mistaking acting like old money with English nobility. I know a ton of families that don't outwardly show their wealth, but if you'll find their interests (hobbies, intertainment, etc, you'll get a glimpse of their wealth.

PS: reckon Johnny boy would bet on a ballgame?
