Sorry but excuses watched my dad die in front of me and did not result in me doing lines to "fight the pain".

I am happy you were able to avoid that. Others have not adjusted so well. My mother died from a terrible brain tumor my first semester at college. Watching her like that, for the years before the end had left me in a very dark place where I tried to drown out the world with every substance I could find. Fortunately, I had friends who were there for me when I hit bottom. Their intervention probably saved my life.

I just hope this kid has people like that around him.

What's wrong with nose candy? It's not like he's a 40 year old Indian with a wife and two kids. All the cocaine in the world couldn't get ole miss to an SEC championship.

He was my favorite college player. I have been rooting for him since he was a frosh. I hate to see this. I guess it was his under sized frame and all but i really liked the guts this young man possessed. I hope he finds it in his heart to turn it around. The ability is there I just hope he can grasp it. I am a big fan of Maty and pray that he can turn the corner. God knows we have all faced this cross road before, I just hope it makes him a better man and possibly a better teammate going forward. I hope for the best. Get well soon MM

Say what you will, but a young man whose dad and lifelong coach is fighting cancer coupled with tremendous pressure of a team with WRs who can't catch, an O-line that crumbles and a MASH unit at running back, and a fanbase and campus all blaming the QB and clamoring for his touted young backup to take over, all coming to a head with a loss at Kentucky...look, it's not too hard to see a young college kid doing something really really stupid to take the edge off over the weekend.

Cry me a river, enabler.

I'm sure Maty's (alleged) selfish behavior is doing wonders for Mike Mauk's mental stress level as the family helps him prepare for the fight for his life.

And if it's true and he ran to drugs to "take the edge off", he's in own fight for his life. The world is littered with Steve Howe's and Darryl Strawberry's whose lives were been consumed by it. Hopefully it's either untrue or he gets help before it's a life problem.

The offensive problems were we had an inexperienced group of running backs in place of our starter. Coupled with an offensive line that has a hurt center and multiple players at new positions. Now if you can throw the ball, these problems would not be so bad. But Mauk has been terrible in the passing game this year. His vision and awareness have been awful. He's throwing ducks all over the field. So our shite running game was exposed even more by teams who were forcing us to throw, but since Mauk was playing so poorly, we couldn't do shite. Lock drove down the field every time he had a possession. I thought it was pretty obvious that the biggest issue on offense was Mauk.

Just so we are clear, your offensive struggles stem from a poor offensive line, subpar running backs, and inefficiencies at quarterback? Getting those three humming should be no problem, you'll be whippinng the ball down the field in no time.

Yep. These guys that think Lock is the immediate answer can't explain why the only time we have scored with him at QB is a fluke broken pass play. But of course Lock will single-handedly solve all the OL problems and the lack of a running game. One of the bigger idiots is the one that wanted Pinkel fired right before 2013 and thinks Pinkel is what is holding Mizzou back from national titles. I think they became Tiger fans in '06-'07.

Not here to claim "Lock is the immediate answer", but I have seen enough over the first third of the season to know a change was inevitable. Think back to the passing attack during the Kentucky game....quick hit, three yard outs thrown to the sidelines. That was (virtually) the entire passing attack. And when the play was designed to go to the middle third what happened........Butt-Pucker Duck was heaved into heavy traffic.

IMHO, Henson had to keep the training wheels on the Dora the Explorer bike for his fricking RSJr QB. Henson couldn't trust Maty and it showed in the vanilla-azz gameplan.

Also, Mauk needed Hansbrough healthy to give him a chance at looking competent......

What's with Mizzou and cocaine? Didn't Quin Synder dabble in the white lady when he was coaching MIZ back in the day?

The defense and Mauk won 2 division titles. Makes no mistake...the defense, not Mauk, won several games. He has a stellar record because he greatly benefitted from a strong defense that allowed him to go 3 and out over and over. Mauk's a competitor no doubt, but a better QB wouldn't have had as many close games as Mauk. A better QB would've finished the game in the 3rd Q or before.

It was nice seeing Mauk play in high school. Him and his brother were great. Both broke the national passing records. Their spread offense was very hard to stop and their dad was a great coach! I'm surprised that Mauk didn't have a better career at Mizz, buy his brother ended up a bust too
