Say what you will, but a young man whose dad and lifelong coach is fighting cancer coupled with tremendous pressure of a team with WRs who can't catch, an O-line that crumbles and a MASH unit at running back, and a fanbase and campus all blaming the QB and clamoring for his touted young backup to take over, all coming to a head with a loss at Kentucky...look, it's not too hard to see a young college kid doing something really really stupid to take the edge off over the weekend.

Johnny won by going to the NFL..

Hope Mauk can figure out his issues. Sucks to see a kid piss it all away like this. Maybe he can transfer to OU or TCU.

You're a douche because you ignore shitty play by everyone and blame the qb..

One has never, ever beat 11 at football in the history of whatever history you want to use.

I'm just waiting for you an others to explain to me how drew lock immediately opens running lanes and helps our linemen beat their defenders off the ball.

Seems like pickled Pinkel would have a soft spot for a fellow substance abuser.

Ok I'm going to explain this to you barnie style.

The QB is the most important position in football, maybe in all of sports. One man can literally change the entire personality of an offense.

When you have a QB that doesn't stay in the pocket, it makes blocking for him much more difficult.

When you have a QB that can't throw the ball effectively(50% completion), defenses can play the run first.

When you have a QB that can't throw short or intermediate passes, you drop safeties deep and wait for him to launch ill advised passes into double coverage.

The gig is up, everyone knows how to defend Mauk. You play the run with your linebackers and you drop your safeties deep.

The guy is a terrible fit for this scheme and always has been. He would be great in a zone read offense where they occasionally take shots down field. In a spread offense that requires quick read and accuracy, Mauk is awful.

If you cannot see the difference between Drew Lock in this offense, and Mauk in the offense, I cannot help you. It's clear as day to anyone who has watched this team so far.

Sorry but excuses watched my dad die in front of me and did not result in me doing lines to "fight the pain". He was given the helm of a D-I football team and IF he was coking up or even dealing then I have ZERO sympathy for him. Sure hope he cleans up if true and hope his dad gets better but enough coddling him. He was a douche as a QB and never improved his skills, so no free ride there either.

Damn.

Somebody needs to have an intervention with him and convince him there was and is only ONE Ryan Mallett.

The rumors have apparently been around for a while. I really hope its not true, but there is a lot of smoke about it.

I have sympathy for his situation, what with his dad, and the pressure of being QB with this struggling offense. But...lots of the offense's problems are related to his play. And it's no excuse for the drugs - if that's actually the truth. If it is, I sure hope he gets the help he needs.

As far as his future with the program - Pinkel has always held his QBs to a very high standard in terms of on and off-field behavior. He expects them to be leaders in every way. IF these rumors are true, he's likely so deep in Pinkel's doghouse he'll never climb out, and the Lock era moves forward.

Whether they're true or not, the student body has been aware of these so called rumors ever since Maty came to Mizzou
