Good Maty or Bad Maty in '15?
I hope I'm wrong, but I'd bet on Bad Maty.
Greg McElroy has pointed out on numerous occasions Mauk's short to intermediate accuracy problems are due to horrid foot work. Surely the coaching staff is aware of this. And reportedly his father remains his chief influence on matters of coaching.
So IMO he'll be as good as his mechanics and willingness to take coaching.

Who knows Mauk's future? I do know he and TE Culkin need to get their act together now, not later. Culkin needs to step-up. The experienced OL will be set, that's the first step. It up to the coaches, MM and the WR's to mature. If so, we'll win the East again. If not, a too early predict of 8-4.
Would MM ever go to a QB guru and receive some one-on-one? I think Franklin did. I think he should, quickly.

Has anyone else noticed this guy looks retarded when he throws? No dig to his capabilities, he can definitely run an offense, just sayin.

Footwork is definitely the issue.

Mauk is a dumpster fire.

The guy that whipped your arse last year????

Mauk's initial hype was generated by one single event- coming in for Franklin vs UGA in the Grown Man rematch and winning between the hedges. That was 2013, the year UGA started 7 different true freshmen in the secondary throughout the year.
Outside of thatt, mauk hasnt done much.

Other than show times against Florida in 2013 of how great of a deep ball thrower he is. Or, in 2013 in the Cotton Bowl that gorgeous over the defense ball he threw to Jimmie Hunt in the corner of the endzone.
Many of us felt that Maty that year could have led us to be undefeated and have a better chance against Auburn with the WR's we had. All of our WR's were deep threats and that is what Maty excels in.
Now, we don't have that.

Moore can get open down the field. Possibly Brown as well. They are both bigger WR.

He has eligibility left? I thought after his 2003 BCSC and brief run in the NFL in Denver he went to dentistry school and opened a practice in the Denver area?

Knee slapping comedy there bud.

Nothing more dumb than giving a Qb credit for wins and losses.

He will choke his arse off against ranked FBS teams like he did last year. Against Alabama, Georgia & South Carolina he had a QBR of 27, and threw 1 touchdown and 4 INTs. In all other games against FBS teams Mauk had a QBR OF 59 with 19 TDs & 9 INTs. Looks like he's a shitty QB with those stats.

Other than win. And I mean that literally. He's not always impressive, but he finds a way to win more times than not. Think he scored two late touchdowns to come back against SC too that was pretty impressive.

yea he throws the deep ball really well but he needs receivers who can get open and also needs to use the entire field better, ie short game. I don't know if he will improve or not, I'm just glad Lock is coming.
Still hoping we can get someone like Marvin Zanders to be our next breakout, slot receiver superstar.

Franklin went out to San Diego to work with George Whitfield before his senior year. Mauk has been asked about doing something similar and he sort of takes offense to the idea. He works closely with his brother, former college QB Ben Mauk, who's now coaching and running his own QB camp.
That was per Dave Matter, StL P-D on 6/11/15.
So, that has me thinking that MM's improvement will be "limited". I am not encouraged. I hope he proves me wrong.

I've always thought Mauk has really good physical skills; above average athlete and a pretty strong arm. Thought that last year he would have a better season. But instead he showed his immaturity. He needs to work on being a better game manager. He's shown the ability to bring his team back, but he needs to do a better job of not putting them in shitty situations with boneheaded plays.

yea a lot of his problem really was simply running backwards too much.
He needs to defeat the pass rush by moving laterally, and I don't know if it's a lack of footwork/deftness or if he just never learned how. Use the attackers momentum against them by sidestepping and getting behind them for a few extra seconds to look down field and let it fly.
I don't see his "top end" game being much beyond that, he's not a bad runner or lacking toughness but he's not going to be a real "dual threat" QB either. He needs that JFF factor of buying himself a few more seconds to make a play without taking himself further out of it, like his running backwards does. We'll either see it this year or we'll never see it.
