If they play different positions, why are so many Bama fans pointing to the stats religiously to make the comparison? That's like comparing receiveing yards between a WR and RB, gee I wonder who will have more receiving yards in that one.... Still doesn't mean shite. Safeties put up more stats bc they are near the ball more then CBs are. Barron is a good safety and Peterson is a good corner, it's hard to compare the two esepcially using stats.

I don't know. I don't control them.

Why are so many LSU fans claiming Peterson is a better player because he is a "shut down corner" and Barron isn't? The only thing close to a shut down safety in all of football is probably Ed Reed. And for as many plays as he makes, he still doesn't have the same pass coverage responsibilities as a corner. This thread is really just a pissing contest for homers. They are both good players who will be making a lot of money in a few years. End of story.

I just mean by what they bring to their teams. Lindley is definitely good. Haden benefits from great pass rush, and same goes for jenkins. Only questionable one in my top 3 is Arenas, but he offers a lot more to his team than the others below him.

He may be all that, but I had never heard of him until this week. Is he a freshman sensation? Was he the one "covering" Julio last year?

I have heard of Patrick Patterson the freshman WR at Ole Miss.

Barron is good and the stats show, but like another poster said, the good ones don't get thrown at as often. Notice Arenas's name isn't on that list and he definitely isn't too shabby. But what I do like seeing is 4 of our secondary guys in the top 20, 3 of them being in the top 4.

Also says alot for our run defense, teams are having to pass on us more

Exactly. If you know anything about good corners you would know that the good ones don't show up on the stat sheets.

People throw more to Haden's side than Jenkins for good reason.

First, if you seriously have not heard of Patrick Peterson before now, then you probably need to crawl back under that rock you've been hiding under. Peterson is the real deal.

Notice, we're not saying everybody in LSU's secondary is a first round pick - just Peterson, because he is IT.

Yes, he was the guy covering Julio on that play in OT last year. He had great coverage on JJ, but the ball was thrown high and to outside, away from the coverage, and JJ just made a spectacular catch. He would have scored v. any other corner. Peterson dragged his arse down by himself. JJ says no one should be able to tackle him alone. I suspect we'll see that on those occasions where JJ catches a 3-to-5 yard comeback route tomorrow, because that's about all he gonna get v. Peterson.

Also, I think Haden is at least as good as Arenas, and is the best tackling DB in the SEC.

why the hell are their stats even being compared to?
Barron is a S, Peterson is a CB.
And yes, Peterson does get beat occasionally, but its part of the job. he is still a hell of a player, and you have to be an idiot not to acknowledge that.
Barron is in his first year starting and has been getting increasingly better every game. He has great potential.

There is a lot of stupid in this thread

Yeah using the "thrown at" argument doesn't work quite the same for a safety. Barron should be compared to other safeties, not Peterson.

Baron's numbers are very similar to Rashad Johnson's numbers last year.

I'm sure that he's a very good player, but his production may have something to do with scheme and not pure ability. Then again, maybe he will be better than Ronnie Lott.

He's got plenty of pure ability, about 6'2 215 and runs well, one of our top recruits along with Julio and Hightower two years ago. I'm sure some of his productivity has to do with scheme but he's good. Johnson should be a pretty good pro too, just no way for him to come in and start right away with safety being probably the strength of Arizona's defense.

I would definitely put money on that. NFL scouts have been drooling over Peterson for a while. He will be a top 5 pick because shut down corners are impossible to find. Just hope that Les does not leave him on Julio the whole game or you will find out the hard way.

You do realize a Saftey is a DB? The guy was trying to call someone a dumbass because they called Barron a DB.
