not that i pay any real attention to the draft... i just feel like he's at minimum a big gamble. i was shocked that the pats, in no need of gambling, drafted him. w/e, i mean... like someone said, we'll all see how it plays out :)

He had what they called the "play of the day" at yesterday's practice...50 yard bomb down the sideline. Im actually excited to watch preseason for once to see how he does

That sentence says exactly WHY the Pats drafted him.

They don't need a QB now but he's a big gamble that has tremendous potential if he can get his shite together. Risk/Reward for them. Low risk pickup with the potential for high reward.

The kid is ridiculously good when it comes to x's and o's. He just needs to get his shite straight off of the field. He stays out of trouble and literally keeps his nose clean then NE is probably the best spot for him.

I feel for where he was picked he's not a huge gamble.

This is a franchise that just traded for Albert Haynesworth and Ochocinco and you think using a 3rd round pick on Ryan Mallett is a "big gamble" in their eyes?

This comment made me laugh.

Since two of the four voided contracts are with the Pats, I’m guessing it’s because they’re not permitted to appear in the Patriots taping of the opposing team’s offensive signals.

You won't find many more people who are more football smart than Mallett.

In Rich Rodriguez system he wouldn't have, no.

If Lloyd Carr stayed he would have been a 3+ year stater.

You do realize he played in 11 games as a True Freshman, right?

Yes I do, but Lloyd Carr retired and he left Michigan because Rich Rod came in.

why I said, if he stayed at Michigan he never would have seen the field. (I should have added again)

Oh, I agree, he wouldn't have played in Rich Rod's offense.

And of course, he knew that and moved on.

The point is that going from Arkie to the Pats is a lot better of a set up for a QB than going from where he was (Michigan) to being picked by some sad sack franchise (Bengals), a clear juxtaposition.

Precisely. Considering that knocks that so many supposed insiders had on him there really isn't a better place than he can be. A system that doesn't need a QB in the near future and is already familiar with and successful with utilizing a slow, big armed QB. You really couldn't ask for a better fit given the circumstances Mallet put himself in.
