State will be better off. To me, it shows Howland has control of his team.

If he is academically ineligible to play at State, he will have to go JUCO correct? The SEC put new rules in place that I thought stated a kid couldn't transfer from one conference school to another if that kid wasn't eligible to play at the school he was transferring from right?
Not really saying its an option he's considering here. I'm more just curious if anyone can confirm my understanding of those rules. Like a Nick Marshall or Mettsiah or Cam transfer from School A in the SEC to Schol B in the SEC could not occur anymore, even if it included a stop at JUCO/CC in between.

I think that's correct, but you are talking about from SEC to SEC team. he'll probably go to Western Kentucky or somewhere smaller where he won't have to sit.

He'll have to sit no matter where he goes

But State fans told me that he was staying.

I'm glad Newman went to State. Because of that, we got Murray.

Incoming talent scared him off.

To me, the other freshman was just a better player at MSU. How was MSU's recruiting class? Wasn't it top 10?
Lamar Peters and more. I don't think it hurts MSU. If that is his attitude and his son's attitude, it will be better for MSU in the long run

If he goes JUCO he won't be eligible there either because of their draft rules. Since he declared, he's ineligible per NJCAA rules (they're different then the NCAA rule that allows you to come back).

I'm sort of lost.
He can't play at a D1 school, because he'll have to sit out a year. He can't go Juco. If he were going to the NBA D-League, why doesn't he just say so? Maybe he's going to Europe?
What's the point of going to a D-2 school or an HBCU where he could play right away? Doesn't it make more sense to just stay at State and make progress on your game?

Yeah, like stupid-arse Archie Manning.
WTF are you talking about? It's awesome that a dad helps his kid in his career. I don't know shite about this particular kid, but others pointed out that his NBA future is at point guard. If that is so, his dad is dead right to advise him to go elsewhere so he can practice his money position.

Honestly who cares. Dude showed up in Starkville a prima donna and didn't produce. I'm honestly glad he didn't end up at LSU and I bet most state fans are glad he is leaving.

so he can practice his money position.

Had me scared there for a moment, until I realized you were talking about a Basketball player, and not Malik Dear.

I heard yesterday that he broke the school record for parallel front squat... EAT

Malik wanted to run the offense at point guard. The problem is he's a tweener. The offense was awful when he was at the point last year and opposing teams pg's abused him. He doesn't have the handles or passing ability to be a point guard.

Then STFU and take your white knighting for meddling arse dads living vicariously through their kids while wrecking their careers elsewhere.

We all thought he was going to be lights out but was wrong. He under achieved and Q over achieved by our preseason expectations. Newman would be a good starter in 2017 but not a superstar. Its Q show to run with or without Newman.
