How many of those guys have been truly 5 stars. 1 maybe 2 out of 15 lol.

It's a money maker for recruiting sites. There are too many five star recruits; however, it keeps subscribers happy that their school is in contention for a five star player.

Recruiting rankings are entertainment to make it through the long off season. People let them set false expectations though.

Devonta Smith
Tyron Johnson
Malachi Dupre
Speedy Noil
Jarvis Landry
Travon Reed
Ruben Randle
Deangelo Benton
Early Doucet
Duke Williams

All were 5 stars and only Landry produced on that level. I'm probably missing some other 5 star WRs from LA.

It's ridiculous to think that many 5 star WRs all could come from Louisiana in such a short period.

I know grown men that swear by them. They always show percentages of 5 stars making it to the league, anything to justify putting stock into them.

Professional scouts have unlimited resources, access to practices, college game tape, the combine interviews, and the Senior Bowl etc. They still can't properly project 21 -23 year olds that have been somewhat developed. The draft is always horrible when they go back and see what players panned out. 1st rders bust and undrafted players become pro-bowl or all pro caliber players.

There is no way possible some guys who run a website can properly rank thousands of high school kids. There is no possible way to discern the talent difference the #9 Wr and the # 3 MLB, but one player will be ranked 60 spots higher than the other.

It's all ridiculous.

Few comments
- I think Early was an '04 signee and Devonta is '17. That's 13 years. Not that short of a span.
- None of those who went to LSU were busts. May not have lived up to the hype but were solid contributors. Chi and Randle played in some of the worst passing O's in CFB.
- Tyron will be a soph at Ok. State so the jury is still out on him.
- The QB rankings are even more off.

While the passing offense sucked Dupre also struggled to make the most out his opportunities. Other than endzone fades Dupree was not really a play maker these last two years.

You don't think 10 5 star players at 1 position is ridiculous in 13 recruiting cycles?

You expect that from a state like FL that actually cranks out boatloads of elite WRs.

States like South Carolina produce quality Wr like AJ green, DeAndre Hopkins, Alshon Jeffrey, Mike Williams, etc.

What makes these recruiting sites chose LA WRs every year? Is it because they are most likely to pay subscription fees?

1) why wouldn't I be serious? Malachi is projected to be drafted in the first 3 rounds on talent alone. Speedy? Lol. Do you think he's going to fight for something that's not given to him? Riiiiight. 0-3 against LSU. Winless.

2) as dominant as Bama has been since '08, I've never seen a more insecure fanbase. It's hilarious and confusing at the same time.

Are we making the assumption that Speedy is going pro in football?

Maybe he should just go pro in pot smoking.

How people still believe in recruiting rankings is mind boggling.

Getting caught up on 5 star vs 4 star I agree and typically there are 30 or so 5 star every year and a percentage of them don't live up to expectations as to a larger percentage of 4 stars who don't live up to expectations and a even larger percentage of 3 star players who do not live up to expectations.

The star system is not a prediction of future success it is simply a way to grade high school players upside on things like speed, size and athletic ability.

It is not a exact science but look at this years BAMA team, while they did not win the title they pretty much dominated this season.

Take one player off the Clemson team and the game is not even close.

Take 5 players off the BAMA team and they do not miss a beat. How high a team finishes in the rankings does have a impact on wins

Dupree. Speedy has a better than 50/50 chance of not being drafted.

Ruben Randle was a consensus top 10 player in the nation. There was never any point in his underwhelming career to suggest his ranking was warranted.

He had decent size, decent athleticism, and poor work ethic. Nothing to suggest he should be a top 10 prospect and the #1 WR in the entire country.

From Louisiana? Not at all.

Why do you think A&M and Alabama hire guys specifically for recruiting ties to Louisiana? They need Louisiana players.

Oh, please. You're way too biased against LSU to even give a fair opinion.

Did he live up to 5 star hype? No, but most 5 stars don't live up to their hype.

He had a decent career at LSU, a great combine, and has had a decent NFL career. He was easily a better receiver at LSU than Chi was, and he'll probably be a better pro as well.
