Saban is doing this because he is scared of LSU. He could change his defense to a lighter, faster more agile unit to stop the HUNH. But in doing so his defense would be more susceptible to the Les Miles/Cam Cameron offense.

So he wants to keep his defense that works well against LSU's offense but change the rules so that he can compete against Sumlin & Gus.

Saban isn't a good x and o's coach he wins but dirty recruiting the best athletes and manipulating schedules. Now he's trying to change the rules.

Here, you need this:

We've done pretty well against AU, Oregon, A&M so...
As far as running it ourselves Sometimes Cam does, sometimes he doesn't.

Basically, it doesn't make any difference as far as I can tell.

I think that if the offense substitutes then the defense should be allowed a few seconds to also substitute.

But if the offense does not sub them the defense does NOT have the right to slow down play without calling a timeout.

pretty sure this thread is about Saban and Bert being the whiners. I think they could both use a tampon.

Football was never intended to be a continuous play game. It was play-by-play. If you want to make it continuous play, fine, but just understand that you are the ones wanting to change the game. The proposed rule would simply keep things more like they've always been.

I think rather then the 10 sec rule it would be better to say on e the o lines up a coach can't change the play from the sidelines if they have a qb good enough to make the correct reads and calls then fine but most the qbs can't anymore.

The score was 38-35, actually. Try and do better this year.

Nobody has attempted this.

They still are.

Why should a team be forced to huddle if they don't need to? No huddle football has been around for a long time.

There is actually some truth to this. LSU with its quicker nimbler free flowing defense has no trouble with HUNH, but does have trouble with Bama's pro set as they have equal talent. If Bama responded by adapting LSU's approach they would destroy Auburn and A&M but then may have trouble with LSU. Saban is no idiot, he wants his cake and getting to eat it too.

Personally I think a rule change is chicken shite nonsense. Granted the HUNH is designed to be different that a traditional huddle up then smash approach but this same complaint was lobbed against teams like Tom Landry's Cowboys or Bill Walsh's 49ers innovations.

New and different is scary to the people who were the best at doing the old methods but it is ultimately more interesting for the fans and viewers so I think the rules should not be amended with the intention of making it less of an advantage.

I think it should also go without saying that the "it might cause more injuries" suggestion is unsubstantiated and probably outright wrong. If the BB and NS's of the world really cared about football injuries they wouldn't be so enamored with a caveman style of football designed to run over the opponents as many times as possible during a game. Not all HUNH approaches will get away from this but any hurry up offense will probably mean smaller, fitter players and that's a good thing if you think about less mass resulting in less force of impact on the recipients of big hits.

As long as the officials handle it well (stand over the ball on subs, get in position for the snap, etc.), I have no problem with it.

This. I have no problem with the HUNH. It adds an interesting dynamic to the game. I really like Nick Saban, but he does seem to be throwing a fit here more so than anything else.
