this makes no sense...only 13% is funded by the state. i think

82% reduction of the money the state funds to LSU. Which is 13% of LSUs total budget.

So instead of funding 13% of LSUs total budget like the state does currently, they are talking about only funding 2.4%.

LSU: The Poorest School in the Conference?

This is nothing new.

LSU has consistently been at the bottom of funding compared to the other SEC schools, historically.

It's a wonder we can actually do what we do.

But LSU's underfunding comes from a long tradition of suckling at the government teat that goes waaaaaaaaay back into history. As a result, LSU has been lazy at cultivating private philanthropy, developing research and patents, making corporate relationships and creating new revenue streams like a more robust online program that could lead to more financial independence.

That's why we quake in our boots so much every legislative session.

The Louisiana Budget lives in a constant state of disaster mitigation. We never do anything innovative because we spend all of our time putting out not fires, but towering infernos every year.

Just some background perspective for those of you who have actual interest in this topic...

Everything I said can be quantified.

If you don't want to take my word for it, you can go and look it up for yourself.

Feel free to prove me wrong.

I understand everyone yukking it up. Nonetheless this is very embarrassing. The remarks made by the Chancellor are a double edged sword.

You would think there must be at least a 10% chance this could happen, which of course is bad--horrible if you're an LSU grad.

If its not true, or greatly embellished, King Alexander needs to go to PR 1001. Trying to get funding, laying the groundwork for elimination of some positions at the school, etc is one thing. But to take the route of temporarily closing it is an absurd tactic.

Very embarrassing interview.

I don't care for LSU sports teams, but its sad that the university is facing a budget crisis. There are dipshits in our state GOP who want to slash funding for higher ed. Luckily here, the GOP governor isn't that extreme and holds no higher ambitions than state govt.

I voted mostly GOP this last round, and I'll be damned if the ones we get into state govt don't start embarrassing me from the get-go.

Sure.

Chevron donates $3 Million

Exxon donates $1.2 Million

Private donor donates $40 Million

Shell donates $3.5 Million

I could go on, but I'd rather you just admit you were wrong and remove yourself from the thread you know nothing about.

We are also blessed with a lot of reliable private funding sources around here.

What's up with the Louisiana and Alabama state governments not being able to manage money? They are both broke and in debt. Here in tLandmass we have a surplus for years to come, and yet we are supposed to be the dumbarses.

No joke, the leaders in industry in Louisiana love him and are 100% behind him. He has turned that state around.

I know this is a sports message board, but some of you have no clue about the chit Booby J has tried to pull. Sure the big wigs from the private sector love him because that's his MO. Cut state spending anyway possible. He tried to sell a State Prison to one of his private sector pals 2 years ago for 13mill, and the state would still be on the hook for inmate/beds daily pay. This particular prison and the land its on was valued at 52 million. his buddy woulda got a hell of a deal don't ya think?
