Why don't you pretend it's 1998, and you beat us. Better yet pretend you have a half arse football program period.

Well, that TCU victory did lose a lot of its luster over the weekend...

Texas A&M lost a bit of luster when they gave up 500 yards to Rice in the first week. Va Tech lost a bit of luster edging out Eastern Carolina this weekend. LSU is a work in progress but you have to like their potential... unlike a lot of recent years there is a real downfield passing game

I don't see what's so bad about our D??? They are young and experimenting on D right now! We shut every team out when we they said ok that enough! And it was?? I mean teams are going to drive on you at some point? Townsend scored 23 or something on us last year! Only thing I see needs improvement that hasn't been improving week to week is creating TAs or getting them! And us turning it over, if we start getting TAs and stop turning it over, it's game! We haven't scored at will on anyone since I've been watching the tigers! We could of scored 80 on UAB and kent state! I think we need to run the ball like we did this week and sustain drives, use up clock and ware D's out also keep ours fresh! If you score to quickly your D gets worn and the other team gets more possessions and points, yds ect. We've held everyone under 300 and two to 250, that's hard to do on any team! And we not playing fcs teams these are fbs teams. It really doesn't matter, I know we are for real and GA and fans are in for a big surprise!

This entire thread is a bit silly. LSU is, just like Bama, Florida, Georgia, and, lately, USCe, the definition of a perennial contender. All of them will have down years, but none of them have been "pretenders" in years. LSU is a contender. Even if they don't win out, even if they lose three games this year, they'll still be a "contender". Whether they're good enough to beat Bama, TAMU, or Georgia remains to be seen, but losing to other contenders doesn't automatically make you a pretender. It just means they're better that given year.

I'm a little late to this thread but LSU has been a contender for the SEC and National Championship for the last 5 years with a below par offense and no QB. Beat or came very close to beating every team we played with that shitty arse offense. What makes people think they won't be immensely better with an offense that is running on all cylinders, insane talent, better coaching/scheme, and a defense that is still solid? Makes no sense to me.

One thing is for sure, Mettenberger's startling improvement is not a result of weak competition, so he will be a gamer when tougher competition rolls in.

His feet are no longer spread 4 feet wide during release.
He's releasing the ball (from snap-to-release) on average in 2 seconds to a primary WR.
He's making NFL throws routinely.
He's making the right reads.
He's not staring down one receiver.
He's making minimal mental mistakes (delay of game slacking, turning the wrong way to hand-off, looking at his feet when pressured, etc.)
He's placing the ball where it can be caught.

I'm mostly concerned with our OL mental mistakes via penalties, and our LBs & DBs allowing inferior teams to get big chunks of yards at times.

But the offense, especially the passing game, is more than legit.

Yeah, ok

Again all of this is based off the shite box completion. Before I go any further I would say he has made improvements but I wouldn't go as far to say he going to be an obvious "gamer" when real teams show up.

Easy to make reads and get quick releases when you are playing teams that cant cover the good WRs yall have or force pressure on him, which is when he looks at his feet in the few times he has faced any pressure this year. Wait until he gets his dick rocked into the dirt a few times before making the claim his startling improvement is not because of the weak competition.

if we beat georgia, then johnny is the only one left on the schedule that concerns me. we match up well with bama this year. that back yard football makes me nervous. not sure we beat georgia though.

LSU is always a fricking contender

What kind of question is that?

Maybe i should have chosen a different title and made it.. is LSU a nat champ contender or just a good 9-10 win football team? because those seem like the two likely options/scenarios. Did not mean to offend any LSU fans and by mentioning pretender I did not intend to downplay their programs consistency particularly during the 2000s. Just honestly didn't know how to evaluate them after the first three games thats all.

No way to tell until LSU/UGA. That will settle a few arguments. LSU can and damn well might drop it...but like UGA, LSU's season is by no means over

The Offense looks to be better but Defense seems to be down a few but could improve as young guys get experience. With that said we still look like a 9 win to 10 win team at best.

Everything I listed is the result of technique change, and improved mechanics & decision making. This will not change when competition improves.

There's a reason why he wasn't leading the SEC in QBR last year (like he is this year) when he faced patsies North Texas, Idaho, and a similarly average team in Washington (like TCU is proving to be this year).

So according to your brilliant analysis, he should have led the SEC cuz they were "shite box competition", too.

But considering you only get to see boom or bust Bro Wallace, it's understandable why you can't comprehend what an elite QB looks like.

yeah

oddly enough both UGA and LSU could lose the game and still control their destiny within the SEC... but realistically if LSU loses I think there's almost no way they can win the SEC West. UGA on the other hand has already beaten USC and would really only have to beat Florida to still win the East (even after a loss to both Clemson and LSU)

UGA borrows plays from LSU....so to find your answer...is UGA's offense a pretender? We know LSU's defense is better
