My observation from last year's LSU offense is that all of the problems centered around horrific offensive line play. Jefferson is somewhat indecisive and held onto the ball for too long anyway, and that led to a lot of sacks which killed many drives. The lack of blocking also made the running game non existant.

That's also why they succeeded so well against Auburn. Our defensive line was so god awful last year that we couldn't even do anything against LSU's offensive line, and their offense shined so much brighter.

JJ's problems are that he doesn't do well under pressure, if you pressure him he makes bad decissions. That is going to take some work to get cleared up as he either needs to develop a plan on what to do under pressure or naturally react, I'm not certain the plan will be developed due to the coaching staff.

The offensive line play last year was horrible but that has been a trend at LSU, some of it is due to top talent that didn't pan out some due to injuries, I think people are seeing some misses in the recruiting services on this one as some players got 4 and 5 star ratings that weren't that level of talent. Also as pointed out it is obvious the offensive line is not as tough as it once was, S&C and talent level are things to look at. It is rare for an offensive line to make a huge jump from one year to next unless you get a good influx of talent or there were a lot of injuries on the line, we'll see what happens this year. I will say last year was a waste for Charles Scott who is a great RB.

I'm an SEC fanatic.

I watched the Bama, Florida, Miss. St, Ole Miss, Arkansas and Penn St. games.

Maybe he was showing his real quality against the 1aa schools.

Except.. there were a lot of injuries on the line last year. And the talent level had dipped down due to attrition and a poor '05 recruiting class.

How many 'bad decisions' did JJ make last year btw? I can only remember a few.

Alright, seriously guys.. I'm tired of hearing how improved Jordan Jefferson is. It's practice. Everyone does good during practice. And i highly doubt they would send out reports that JJ was doing bad. I don't want to hear how much he's improved until he's proven that on the field in a real game.
Look Jefferson has the talent to be one of the best QB's in the nation.

He just has a coach that is trying to fit a square peg into a round hole.

JJ is a pocket passer who can run. Crowton has tried to make him into a running QB that can throw.

Trouble is, JJ has never had the instincts to be a running QB. Crowton has focused so much on his running, that nobody has bothered to work with him on his motion, release, or pocket presence.

Watch film of the kid in HS. He had great pocket presence. Did he just forget it? Unlikely.

More likely he had a coach in his ear telling him to count to X, and then run.

Whoa, whoa Jack. I'm a fan and all, and optimistic that an older Jefferson CAN be a competent QB, but let's not count our chickens before life evolved to live on land

Somebody's pussy hurt today?

Our Oline was shitty last year.. Ciron Black wasnt even drafted. Shows you how overrated he was. Tbob Hebert= way too small. Pj Longeran is an upgrade. We have some young, hungry guys on the line with a good bit more bulk.

Ridley, Ford, Murphy,Ware>>>>Scott, William, 1st year back from injury ridley

I loved Scott and Williams but i think Ford is going to turn heads fast.
WR should be very fine, you all know who starts, but i have heard James Wright is doing very well too.
The game should slow down alot for Jefferson this year, and the presence of a solid running game will help too.
I feel like we will break a couple of losing streaks (FLA,BAMA,OM)
and extend one (AU)

JJ's inability to read defenses, progressions, and lack of pocket presence killed the offense last year.Coaches had to call audibles and formations from the sideline that's why it took LSU 24 seconds to get a play run.

Teams stacked the box because they knew JJ could not pick out the hot receiver. The option was run to negate the blitz. LSU is no option team but ha to use it to keep defenses honest.

In some defense of the OL,kneeling at LOS over 20 seconds each play does affect one's ability to get off the ball and drive block.

If JJ ever grasps the mental part of the game,LSU will have a good offense.
If Jarrett Lee ever regains his confidence,he could make the offense go.

Since I'm not at practice,I can't blame the coaches for what I see happening during games.
Do you guys think a coach is going to admit his player screwed up? Coaches get paid to take the blame.
With decent QB play,LSU will contend for SEC title.
Road,if you are at practice, tell us what the coaches are doing wrong then tell us how it should be done.

fwiw I don't think he has improved on the field. I think he has tried harder than in the past during this off-season. I think his leadership skills are better, but come game time I think the same product will emerge.

As an LSU fan I am resigned to believing we are fricked at QB and arguably coaching for the next two years. Once again, I think we lose 4. Most LSU fans are predicting this number.

My question to you is why would you think we are delusional with expectations of significant improvement at QB if most of are fans are predicting 3-4 losses? Flame on!

Ha Ha, that's cause he is fumbling the snap, throwing interceptions and having trouble grasping the most basic reads.

-who are the key losses and additions?

LSU returns 5 on offense from last year
- Jefferson
- Toliver
- Barksdale
- Dworaczyk
- T-Bob (who will not start)

LSU adds to starting offense as playmakers
- Ridley
- Shepard
- Randle
- D. Peterson
- Ford
- R. Murphy

LSU lost
- LaFell
- Black
- Hitt
- Scott
- Williams
- Holliday
- Dickson
as people who contributed to last years offense
many were multiple year starters who started on the 07 championship game.

quote:

-what's the word on Jefferson? it doesn't look like he can progress that much more, i think he's just an average QB talent
Same as always, that he is making progress and fighting off J Lee in practice. Supposedly working on mechanics to have a quicker release and more compact throwing motion however we will see that in 20 days.

quote:

-i think you lose some OL, not sure if that's a good thing or bad thing? Black was overrated last year i felt
Good and bad, LSU lost a lot of experience as Hitt/Black were 3 year starters, T-Bob is back but will not start. LSU offensive line is bigger and less experience. This could help the running game but could also lead to false start penalties due to the youth. If young guys develop quicker than expected then they have potential to be really good.

quote:

-what's up with Sheppard? i felt he could have done big things last year but didn't get many touches.

3rd WR at the moment, will probably see him used in various ways. Maybe in backfield on occasion, QB in Wild Tiger, maybe even at PR/KR at some point you never know. He is one player who any time he touches the ball he is capable of scoring a touchdown.

Overall my opinion is the offense will improve, the defense will improve in overall but the scoring defense may drop back to 18-20 PPG. The special teams may see a drop off as well due to replacements coming in. That means you will see a better club than last year but it may have a similar record.

HUGE reason for this is Moffit was sick all last summer and couldn't be with the team for workouts , so Our line was MUCH smaller than it is now.
