I just don't see how LSU's offense is going to improve from 2009 to 2010, unless Jefferson makes huge strides and becomes a difference maker. Defensively, things could take a step back, returning only two starters in the front 7.

This certainly isn't a shocking statement, but it's ALL on Jordan Jefferson's shoulders if LSU is to compete for the West.

For now, I'll say 9-4 again.

While JJ has some improvement to make, like making decisions faster, the Tiger running game will determine how far we go in 2010.

I think the fact that JJ had almost no running game to depend on in 2009 is lost on some people.

It is shocking, and it's not even close to being true.

true... the running game must get better.. let's face it, there isn't much about LSU's offense that doesn't need improving.

I think last year will end up being the anomaly that 2008 was for the LSU defense.

It's why I have LSU picked to win the west in 2010.

Miles...probably not. Crowton...definitely

+1

With LSU naming a "Passing Game Coordinator" in Billy Gonzalez, and looking favorably at bringing in a new TE coach with OC experience, I would say they are gearing up to replace Crowton if he is a failure next year.

Just how things look to me though...

the schedule deserves a mention... it's pretty harsh

open against the pseudo-NFL front seven UNC has, host WVU's spread option even as the defense hopes to reload, travel to Auburn and Florida, host Ole Miss and Alabama

LSU fans are putting Miles and Crowton on the hot seat, but really it's only Crowton

I think a 10-win season would be reasonably called a "good" year given who's on the schedule... I'd expect splits between UF/AU, UA/OM, and WVU/UNC plus a bowl win for 10-3, maybe even win both OOC games for 11-2, but hell, who knows? That schedule could make 11-2... or 5-7.

This is a good thing, d-line was very under achieving last year

I'm sure Crowton sees the writing on the wall and gets it in gear.

By that, I mean simplifying things. It gets tiring seeing Jefferson and Co. running around like chickens with their heads cut off as the play clock is about to hit 0.

The way you stated it was completely different from how I presented it. You said it as if Auburn had no talent on defense and couldn't possibly improve this year. We sucked due to depth not overall lack of talent.

1) In five games, Auburn gave up more than 10 points in the first half. In four of those, they gave up more than 15. In two of those, they gave up more than 20.

This seems to indicate that Auburn pretty much sucked on defense from the beginning of the game, not "after they wore down."

2) Auburn was clearly better on defense later in the year, after the LSU game. This means two things: a - that the problem wasn't depth it was overall experience; and b - that Auburn does in fact have the capacity to improve.

However, I never questioned that capacity to improve. I simply questioned, in a very tongue-in-cheek manner, as to whether they had. After all, two of my last three impressions of Auburn are negative.

1) LSU dominated Auburn from start to finish, and we weren't that good on offense.

2) Auburn played a great game against Bama.

3) Northwestern hung 35 on you.

but after the disaster Co-DCs experiment and the subsequent hiring of John Chavis, it was understandable to expect the defense to improve in 2009... those changes haven't really happened in the offense for 2010. Crowton is still calling plays and Jefferson is still throwing the ball.
