The common opponent argument is kind of dumb when the 2 teams in question have played in the current season.

At home in our base defense before the team gave up. We could put our best defense on the field. Also LSU's offense is not that complex. One other thing to mention that style offense is what BVG is used to seeing so it was easier to plan against, BVG has not done well against hurry up offenses.

AU-LSU is one of those games that you can traditionally throw out the talent disparity. They are always close and hard fought (with exception of last year). AU, at that point, was still fighting and that crowd and stadium were electric.

Those things considered: LSU was having some injury issues on the OL, Mett was untested in an SEC road game atmosphere, a few key fumbles, and some conservative play calling killed us.

And more to the reason of your thread: as conservative as the play calling still was, and as questionable as Mett's play still was for a lot of the game, Miles and LSU still beat your team in your own house and rendered JFF a non-issue.

Because Les was still calling plays at that time.

LSU's program peaked in November of 2011, it has been a downhill slide since then.

Nice attempt at a troll.

But, to answer the OP, it's a combination of several factors.

1) At that point in the season, our OL was really all over the place. We had just lost Faulk for the year and we put in Josh D to replace him (who had only been a OG his entire career). He had some issues keeping Lemonier out of the backfield.

2) It was our first road game with a new QB, who had yet to be tested at that point in his career. His inexperience showed in his pocket presence. He was god awful at feeling the pressure from his backside; moreover, those 2 fumbles in the red zone didn't help his cause either.

3) Because of the above-mentioned point, Les was ultra conservative with the offense. Luckily, we escaped JHS with a win, but we had an eerily similar performance in the Swamp a couple weeks later against a better Florida team, and that costed us.

4) At that point in the season, Auburn wasn't completely out of it yet, so they still had a lot to play for.

Winner! Although I wouldn't say the argument is kind of dumb, it is dumb.

I agree with the a&m guy. We squeaked by Auburn, and they handled them easily. No friggin way LSU could compete with A&M this year.......oh wait???
