Tamu fans are always flaming. It comes naturally to them.

#1 defense in ridiculous stats alone. No one on the team believes that bullshite. They got obliterated early and late. Ole Miss had the best defense last year and that's not debatable.

That would be you writing novels about how amazing your starting DEs are when they've combined for 5 conference sacks.

It's funny because the talent that formed the 2011 defense came in in the 2009 class which Chavis had no part of. Without that recruiting class I doubt Chavis would've had the success he had. Every year since has been a decline. Thank god for Corey Raymond and his DBs or last year would've been a disaster.

If you look at the 2010 class, that's where it already started to get sad on DL/LB. We got Ego (by Brick) but then ended up with Maclin, Allen, Muncie, Adams and Welter at DL/LB. I mean holy shite...

The rankings based on stats are false? Huh.

It's a new low for fans to denounce the success of their own team's players in order to try and prove a point about a former coach

There is nothing wrong with those players on a personal level but they just weren't SEC caliber athletes, plain and simple. Chavis does not recruit.

Dude did you watch any LSU game last year or are stats all you care about? Our defense sucked to no end. Our offense's lack of success is excusable considering the amount of talent we lost but we returned a veteran defense at all levels. It's sad that you think stats mean everything instead of results.

The #1 defense in the SEC last year is considered declining?

#1?

In SEC games yards allowed (#3):

In SEC games points allowed (#3):

Just for fun; In SEC games sacks by defense (#12):

One thing that isn't quantified by these types of stats: Choking. His defense has choked 2 games away each of the last 3 seasons. That's what we like to call a "frustration stat".

I'll let you in on a lil secret,LSU had great defenses long before Chavis arrived and will continue to have them long after he is gone. This is nothing more than wishful thinking on yalls part that A&M bought the only reason they couldn't beat LSU.

Since you use stats as your basis for argument. LSU was the #1 defense? #1 in what? Points allowed, yards per game?
Go look at SEC yards per play from last year and get back to us.

Allow me to enlighten you on LSU's defense. The biggest concern is lack of depth which was established under Chavis' watch.

Once again, not surprising at all that you are blaming Chavis. Very predictable

I get the sense that y'all are a little thin when it comes to DEs. Will Key play much as a true frosh? Who should be watch during games?

Godchaux is a beast up the middle with LaCoutre not too far behind. The DE's are bower and neal who have little experience but I trust coach O and the progress that's been claimed to have been made over the spring/summer. Key won't start but he'll probably play a lot an be a significant edge rusher.

Apart from personnel, what schemes should we look for? Are rumors about some 3-4 sets true? Will it be more of a gambling D than the gap-contain stuff we are used to? WIll there be blitzes?

Probably won't be much 3-4 since were the weakest depth wise at Linebacker and our strength on the line is the two DT's. The base D will probably be a 4-3 nickel or dime hybrid since the strength of the team has always been Dbs. And yes, sacking the QB has been a huge emphasis with Coach O and steele and I think we'll see a ton more blitzes than the containment D we played in the past.

Will be interested to hear if that tune changes after this year

Since this thread is clearly off track.

TxA&M will get marginal to significant improvement at defense this year and claim victory. Just how it will be and I am sure some of y'all have already typed up the post for the "I told you so moment."

It will be easy to improve that defense because it fell so far in the last 5-10 years. Now, the REAL measures will be:

- Win Loss record because that matters the most.
- Year 2 and 3 of the defense. The honeymoon will be over then and the real yardstick of success will be set in year 1.

Now, chances are LSU defense ranking will go down because it is pretty darn high at the moment. The key for LSU will be:

- Win Loss record because that matters the most
- DL line play overall. Significant improvement or marginal.

LSU is thin on the DL and LB (for Steele's scheme). A few injuries and the wheels come off a bit.

On record, significant improvement by the QB and DL, everything else remaining the same...even special teams.. will have a huge positive impact on the W-L record.

Now, please return to your normal everyday crap-fest.
