Quote where I said that. How many tropical systems have you ridden out before in Atlanta? Somewhere you had to have developed this expert knowledge and first hand experience.

I will say this now that this whole thing move or stay has blown up I bet it's not that bad and everyone goes told you so.

LSU fans need to realize that Florida understands how to handle big storms. We get that Katrina was a horrible disaster, but Florida is prepared and understands how to handle storms like this.

My prayers are with you guys. I'm not sure any one can be prepared for a storm of this severity. The game is total irrelevant now. This bastard is coming for Florida.
Every possible emergency responder will be needed to care for survivors and disaster victims. The last thing any of you guys need to worry about is a damn football game. May the grace of God be with every soul in Florida and the many islands affected by this storm. God be with you all.

From Jacksonville, lived in Atlanta, student at UF. We moved to Atlanta in 2003, hurricane Francis hit Jacksonville the next year. Several of my family members had to come stay with us during the hurricane and in the aftermath. Don't act like you're the only one to ever experience a hurricane. Living in and around the coast, we have all been effected by a hurricane at some point or another.

I hope the game is played this weekend. I'm sure all safety precautions will be adhered to. Hopefully this de-intensifies and the Florida coast will be spared catastrophic damage. If it remains a Cat 4, and hugs the coast, shite could get real.

You're right, because the storm that's going to be centered off the coast of Florida is going to ravage the small college town that's 100 miles inland.

It's crazy how many of you don't even know your own state's geography. For the 3rd time today. Gainesville is 65 miles from the Atlantic and 68 miles from the gulf.

No one ever said that.

As of now, yes.

The issue is that you and every other Florida fan keeps saying Gainsville is not in the projected path, yet the cone (which is the probability of the eye path) goes right by Gainsville. You can't be that dense to understand what the cone represents and say Gainsville is not in the path.

OP has stated Florida is better prepared for major hurricanes than La. If it skirts the coastline they won't lose any power and the nfrastructure can handle any storm. I doubt any power companies out of state are mobilizing crews to aid in restoring power bc the day after the weather is going to be beautiful...open for tourism

Believe me I know I am not the only one but it doesn't sound like you have experienced any.

Exactly and I said this in another post just worded differently.

The whole cone is not the eye. Surely that makes sense.

The actual eye is at the bottom of the cone.

Semantics I guess and a whole lotta frickery today.

They still aren't expecting much for Gainesville at this point. Projected 3-5" of rain through the weekend.

Current wind probabilities:

67% chance of minimum TS force winds (39 mph) and less than 20% of winds reaching up to 58 mph.

Of course the track could move more to the west and the impact on Gainesville itself isn't the only factor into playability.

Classes are cancelled Friday because Friday is when the worst of the storm is passing East of Gainesville. There will be rain, and there will be wind. Its not that hard to understand

Ah, so Florida commonly cancel classes for a little wind and rain. Ohhhhh.. Ok. Wooo, that explains everything.

Not only does Florida know how to handle hurricanes best, they don't need models. They can predict the path of the eye to a 0% +/- margin of error 48+ hours prior. Oh that we could all be Floridians.

Imagine what a shitshow it would be if those cones ever shifted. I can't even imagine.

There have been discussions to move the game elsewhere to a number of sites, and Florida up to this point has passed.

We shall see what happens Saturday, but if the game doesn't get played Florida has no one to blame but themselves for the lost revenue.

FWIW, I think the game gets played as scheduled in the Swamp Saturday, but again, if it doesn't, Florida had options and decided against them.

This is the bigger issue. The governor of Florida says this could be the largest ever evacuation in Florida, and UF wants to go ahead and host a football game.

The eye path could come dangerously close to Gainsville, and even if it doesn't, is it really a good idea to try to get 90,000+ to a game that's less than 50 miles from devastated areas that need immediate help? Plus dealing with all the evacuated people?

I understand Florida not wanting to lose a home game, but that seems very shortsighted.

Instead of regretting you only have one downvote, you should be regretting the fact that you never passed second grade spelling.
