This game looks awesome with both teams in their dark unis. Would love to see some SEC teams incorporate this tradition.

Negative. The Blue home jerseys are awesome. However, the NCAA has now ruled that teams can where whatever jerseys they agree on. so you could get home and home jerseys now.

The dark /white thing was mainly for TV anyway in the days when it was black and white only.

Kiffin wanted to do it when he was at UT, but Bama declined for some reason. I wish we hadn't declined it. I'd love to go back to doing it for the TSIO game.

Good info in thread.

Bonus questions: How would LSU react if a team required them to wear the purple on the road? Has this ever happened?

I know Ms. State did it to us to start the 2007 season in Starkville on a Thursday night.

All I can say is that it did not turn out well for Ms. State that night.

I really like the all white with the yellow (gold) helmet.

Tradition and supersition and white is tighter than a virgin bride's honeypot

but our purples are the GOAT jersey in sports history.

Yes it has happened. As mentioned before, both teams must agree on this. In the early '80s the NCAA began requiring home teams wear their colors at home.

In the '90s Denardo petitioned the NCAA (as part of the bring back the magic campaign) to wear whites at home. The NCAA said that the visiting school had to agree.

Consiquently, Vandy, whom LSU had hired Denardo away from, and had to come to BR that season, refused. So, Denardo had gold jersey made and is the only time I can recall the Tigers wearing gold.

Also, a season or two later, Spurrier agreed to let LSU wear whites at home if they could do the same for the their home game. These are 2 instances I can recall.

I don't think they can be required to wear purple on the road. I believe the home team is required to wear their colored jerseys, unless the visiting team agrees to wear their colored jerseys.

Well, in essence, everyone could make LSU wear purple on the road.

Other AD: Wear purple or we won't wear our home jerseys next year at TS.

I wish we would do this some so the cooler (temp) white jerseys could be used.

Well yeah, they could make LSU decide where they wanted to wear their purple jerseys by threating to not let LSU wear their purple jerseys at home if they didn't wear them on the road. But LSU would still have the choice.

In the end I think it's an outdated rule to force the home team to have to wear their colored jerseys. No one has black and white TVs anymore. They should only make one team wear white if both teams have very similar colors (like Arky and UGA, or A&M and MSU).

ETA: I'd love to see the Iron Bowl played with Bama's crimson and Auburn's navy blue jerseys. That would look pretty cool IMO.

We lose when we wear purple. Miles knew that when he came to LSU so he only allows his team to wear the purple vs rent-a-wins. If you look at LSU's record wearing purple vs white prior to Miles's tenure, you will see a huge difference in winning percentage.

Saban actually started that trend when he got to LSU in 2000. He said he wanted to honor the successful teams LSU had in the 1980s that wore purple at home. Miles just continued the tradition for the most part, though he added the rule that LSU wears white for the first home game, regardless of the opponent.

Before Saban, LSU wore gold jerseys a handful of times under DiNardo when forced to wear a jersey other than white. Game at Florida in '98 they wore gold helmet and gold jerseys.
