Yep. Some of the past Mike's embraced getting in that cage and giving it hell.

yea i'm all for letting mike do what he wants to do and not try to make him feel uncomfortable getting in the cage and trying to make him roar. he deserves that respect not only bc he's our mascot but because he's a frickin tiger. that being said some of our mikes in the past seemed to roar on cue in tiger stadium. it was definitely one of the best things to ever see/hear no matter what team you were pulling for that day.

Honestly wondering here. Is Mike given a chance to ride in his cage at the game and refuses? Is this something he just started doing or has he always refused to go?

Times have changed. We have a lead vet who puts Mike's interest above the fans'. And we've also got PETA up our asses on a consistent basis.

Bottom line is that we just don't force Mike to show up anymore. Some fans hate it, but it is probably the right thing to do.

That's the way it should be. Good for y'all, putting him first. If he gets freaked out by the crowd and fireworks, then he shouldn't be in the stadium. His sanctuary is awesome, I love tigers.

Because the cheerleaders used to rake the cage with the mike boom. The tigers would roar to get the terrible noise to stop. It was learned behavior under conditions of distress, nothing more. That kind of training is generally frowned upon these days.

The team stays in the Lod Cook Hotel the night before games.

Do the same thing with Mike. Let him spend Friday night at the BR Zoo. That way they should be able to load him in the mobile cage without all the crowds/distractions.

why do i remember a story about some guy on the top row of tiger stadium claiming to snipe mike with a rifle. he only wanted to talk to jose vargas. i think jose even brought some of his chips to the talkdown. or did i dream that?

Now that you mention it, I think this was the same incident. Maybe he claimed to have a gun in the bag, but he wasn't on Tiger Stadium, he was between the fences. I think they called Jose because he was from the same country, or at any rate spoke Spanish. Eventually Jose talked the guy into coming out and dropping the bag. I want to say it was a sandwich in the bag, I'm pretty sure it was some type of food item, but I'm certain there was no gun.

Actually, I'm nothing of the sort; I'm a lady.
I simply found the poster's comment re: the tiger being somewhat hesitant to be unfortunate.
I understand that others will disagree.
Not a big deal.
A bit of unsolicited advice: There's no need to be so contemptuous with your language; it can show an inability to manage yourself in all situations. A toast to Mike.

Sorta like your Aggie counterpart Gradual Stroke hmmmmm ??? He used the same ahem, 'word' in another post is this thread. I guess it's alright for him ????
Not to use contemptuous language, but what the bleep is his problem ????
Was he anally violated by Mike once ?????

In the past they probably would have forced him to
In this day and age the caretakers allow the tiger to decide and if he doesn't get in the cage he doesn't go

He has better conditions than any zoo and better care with LSU vet school than any zoo

I've come to disregard it almost every time I pass, but every now and then I think about it... This guy has a fricking tiger at a truck stop.

If I'm not mistaken Tulane students once kidnapped Mike way back in the day. I want to say it was in the 70's.

My apologies Sarge. Of course she is not responsible.
But seeing as how there is no possible civil way to have a dialogue with that particular person, I was just venting to a much more reasonable A&M backer (such as you and/or her).
It was not something that I should have put on her or anyone else from your esteemed poster/fan base, however.
So plesae ignore that query and its in-the-moment intent.
My apologies.

The previous Mike, for some reason, did not like the costumed Mike. So he would hide and once the cage arrived at the student section, the costumed Mike would step out and let the real Mike see him. That is what made him roar. And it was cool when the roar was into the microphone and heard throughout the stadium. I am not sure how you could make a tiger roar on command otherwise.

Weird how circus folks can get multiple tigers and lions to sit side by side and get them to perform, load up into their cracker box cages and roar on demand.....
