Academics and Athletics are two different things. The athletic department actually donated 36 million to keep the university running in the fall.

Their style of play hurts them. Running a glorified Arena League offense helps recruit offensive talent, but no good defensive player int heir right mind will sign up for that.

It's also Eugene, Oregon. No amount of money can increase local talent. They have to hit California hard and trying to sell SoCal kids on Oregon over UCLA or USC is pretty tough. I would imagine they can and should get a decent bit of northern california kids, but what's the talent like there compared to southern california?

Once again, Texas is not who they think they are.

Oregon is probably right but it's coming from one old guy who is basically turning philanthropist and just giving money away to that school. He wasn't doing that 20 years ago.

And yes, location is an issue there. It has been with Washington and Wazzu as well. What Don James did at Washington was nothing short of brilliant and he never gets mentioned amoung the greatest coaches of all time.

I get that, but the point of the post was about SEC . Texas is a dumpster fire and Oregon will slide down the list after this year. Their donor is starting to give more and more to research

It's not as black and white for a yearly rankings list though, "their" donor tends to donate for huge projects. Oregon doesn't need operating budget donations they need donations for facilities and projects. Oregon isn't falling behind anyone in the facilities race so Phils donations go other places.

He still has become more interested in donating to research which he wasn't doing a few years ago to the magnitude he is today

Any program which depends heavily on one specific donor, such as Oregon, or Oklahoma State, could easily have things turn south on them.

This is why people make fun of the LSU fans and their lack of education. Check out Revenue-Expenses.
Here is the source: LINK /

Bama $153.234M-$120.184M= $33.05M
A&M $119.475M-$95.663M= $23.812M
LSU $133.679M-$122.945M= $10.734M

Btw...Oregon counted their donations towards their total revenue ($124.9M). A&M actually raised $740M that year of which $271.M to the 12th Man Association (athletics), but only counted $36.3M towards the figure above. If they used Oregon's methodology they would have brought in $354.175M.

Every time revenue is brought up, and I mean every single time, at least 1 Aggie is going to make the same exact point you just did and every single time it gets picked apart for how dumb of an angle that is.
Any informed human being would want their schools sports program to reinvest 85-90% of revenue back in. Why does it make sense for a non profit organization to worry about profit?
I swear you have to be 15 years old. Have to be.

Nice find by Texag7.

Texas A&M's $192.6 million in revenue puts it in college sports elite. This is more in line with what I was thinking and closer to what Oregon was claiming when adding donations.

There is nothing elite about Aggie sports. A lot of good all that revenue is doing for the actual product being put out in College Station.
