Some years you get a Heisman winner who is either the best QB statistically that season or someone who is the best player on clearly the best team that year, but no one is truly outstanding or what you really think of when you think "Heisman winner". This is a "By Default" Heisman, a player a few years down the road becomes an obscure trivia answer, or an "Oh yeah, that guy did win it" during football discussions.

Jayden Daniels as the best QB statistically this year despite playing for a 3 loss LSU will likely become part of the "Winner By Default" Fraternity, with such names as RG3, Devonta Smith, and Mark Ingram. He probably won't get a room in the Heisman house, but maybe they let him crash on the couch.

Well YOU don’t because UT never has the best player or even one worthy of an invite.

"By Default"

Having the best statistical season a QB has ever had is winning "by default" because his team had a shitty defense?

Daniels led his team to a victory over Florida, as did Ingram and Smith. Who was that Tennessee QB who never could do it? Maybe that’s why he didn’t win the Heisman.

Total bullshite. I specifically remember Peyton Manning shedding Voluntears on National TV as a kid.

That just means you are old. Most don’t remember that, was before they were born.

Yeah, Daniels went out there and became one of just 4 SEC players to have 50 total TDs in a single season by default. The other three players to accomplish that feat also won the Heisman by default.

Shut the frick up, moron.

It is what it is
It's a popularity contest
I've always thought why are voters just giving it to the flavor of the moment, so if Nix wins last Fri night that gives it to him but since he didn't he's out

Daniels has put up a Heisman winning resume whether he gets it or not, just like P Manning did

People make a big deal about the three losses but do you really think Nix or Penix win any of the three games LSU lost - Bama on the road, Ole Miss on the road and FSU with Travis at a neutral site
Let's swap those three opponents for the top three on Washington and Oregon's schedule and see where LSU ends up even with a struggling defense

These takes are always cringe. Whoever gets it deserves it.

Btw I get the Ingram take but you're really going to try and say that Smitty didn't earn it? Look at his numbers that year. If he didn't "deserve" it then Mac Jones did.

Devonta Smith

Weird take for a player who had over 1800 yards receiving and 23 TDs the year he won it.

Did you actually WATCH any of these guys play?

Daniels deserves it. Without him, LSU isn't even bowl eligible. He was electric this year. He's basically like Vince Young but much less prone to throwing INTs.

I'm sorry Tennessee hasn't been in the discussions of relevancy for anything important in a long time (national titles, conference titles, or Heisman trophies).

It’s usually the “best player in best team” winners that are forgettable.

People remember RGIII

people don’t remember Troy Smith.
