Mullen quit recruiting this year when he thought he was getting the Miami job. They'll do better next year

Last years class was Mullen's best class, by far, we'll be fine.

Nothing wrong with that at all. The problem is that being ranked 35th is good enough for about 10th or 11th in the conference.

in 4 years OM has continually improved and proven they can compete with anyone and have success.

In 4 years y'all have bought every recruit you could and therefore have improved every year.

We will see how it all plays out. Mullen has lost 3 out of 4. He knows adjustments have to be made. His fanbase will not tolerate losing to Ole Miss every year. Freeze is playing with fire with recruiting. Maybe it pays off. Either way this is the first time I can remember both State and Ole Miss being good at the same time 4 years in a row.
If you think Msu is going to start sucking because Mullen can't recruit then you haven't been paying attention. We will average 8 wins as long as Mullen coaches Msu.
Enjoy winning signing day.

Then enjoy Probation

I don't think that either. There will be enough players that are 4 stars or coached up that will cross over from class to class that will result in higher rankings every 2 to 3 years.

But the question was about the long term. And the answer to that is no. Unless he recruits better the talent gap will continue to widen. Slowly those higher rankings will drop.....

It's looking like Mullen has botched this year's class, at least what it should have been.

Three reasons:

1. Mullen doesn't play the recruiting game. He doesn't like this part of college football.

2. Constant staff shake ups. It took a real toll this year.

3. Having his name in other job searches was effectively used against him by competing programs.

We'll see how it ends up tomorrow, but it's not looking like certain immediate needs are going to be met in this class. Particularly on the DL. But there are some very talented players in this class. The numbers aren't there.
