Uh, he won't be re-elected! And LSU football isn't going anywhere.

I will be shocked if he doesn't get "recalled"

What you republicans are failing to mention is your GOP governor left the state in 500 million dollar debt this year.and its projected to be 1 billion dollars this upcoming fiscal year. Because of our state Constitution, we have to have a balanced budget. Therefore, fundings has to be cut to several programs. JBE didn't create this problem, he's trying to solve it. Its just like Bush created the problems for the country and .
I think I saw on here when all of this first came up a while back that old man Edwards got legislation passed that protected all but a couple of agencies from budget cuts; education being one of them. When budget cuts are necessary, across the board cuts is the only way not to devastate a single agency. La governor must be way more powerful than ours because all of this would be on the legislature not the governor.

But that is the point of the problem. You can't have a big budget and a welfare state unless you have a wealthy tax base. In other words a core group of wealthy people that will stay the course. Even a wealthy state like California learned that lesson a few years ago when they raised taxes so high that they did cause a flight out of the state. They had such a base that they did survive but La? I think it is a catch 22 situation for them. fwiw which may not be that much. La needs some good financial leadership and it may take some austerity that will hurt for a time but no pain no gain.

You've got your states mixed up.

If you want to pick cotton, you need to go to Texas, Georgia, or maybe Mississippi.

All 3 produce a lot more cotton than Alabama.

2015 Production
Texas: 5.8 million bales
Georgia: 2.3 million
Mississippi: 670,000 bales
Alabama: 545,000 bales

LSU football and the LSU AD give money back to the school. This is beyond stupid and it's shameful it's even being mentioned.

Im not sure LSU would be affected because of actual money. But if you really knew how much taxpayers were subsidizing football and other sports at McNeese, Southeastern, SUBR and Grambling among others, you'd be shocked.

In Mississippi, USM athletics cost taxpayers $9 million last year. Louisiana has about six USMs.

This is why I'm not worried about LSU, yet. Once they start shutting down the Southeastern/ULL/ULM's of the world, I'll start to get a little anxious.

it would only be fair for the NCAA to release all Louisiana players from their commitments and waive the 1 year penalty for transfers.

these young students should not suffer b/c the state of Louisiana is incompetent.

LSU's athletic department gives money back to the school. Its kind of a drop in the bucket, though.

If $10 million is a drop in the bucket to you

Unlike most of its peers, LSU’s athletics department actually gives money to the academic side of campus. The university receives at least $7.2 million each year from athletics as part of an agreement from 2012 to help offset budget cuts.

In 2015, LSU athletics paid more than $10 million to the university.

Most of the profits come from football, which generated $42.9 million in 2015, versus $23 million in expenses. LSU baseball generated $3.2 million in 2014, covering its $2.9 million in expenses. (In 2015, baseball ran a small deficit.)

All this is correct and like I said, LSU theoretically should not be affected.

However, if they have to start curbing programs at Grambling and Southern, not to mention McNeese, Southeastern and Monroe, there will be political pressure to do so at LSU. That's the world we live in. Punish success and subsidize failure.

In the grand scheme, yes, $8million is a drop in the bucket, but the $100million a year that TAF saves the school by operating the athletic budget autonomously isn't.

Not even close to being a gem of a state.

But I haven't seen the UA or AU Presidents threatening to cut courses and layoff faculty and closing the doors of the schools in an effort to scare the shite out of our Governor. (i.e. King Alexander in spring 2015)

And I haven't seen Gov. Bentley making threats the very next year saying they may close the universities down....students with no grades, etc. resulting in football players becoming ineligible in 2016.

That's because he would be assassinated within two weeks!! I'm being honest if a governor did that in Alabama he wouldn't be around very long.

Very TRUE!

In this state the large majority of K-3rd grade kids have no clue who the Governor of Alabama is - but they damn sure know who coaches Alabama and Auburn football.
