What about the rings? I want to hear all about them!

As someone who has lived in Mississippi for almost 4 years now, I can wholeheartedly tell you that the Mississippi State fans care way, way more about the Egg Bowl than Ole Miss does.
If you don't believe that their following doesn't take that same, weird, obsessive Mantra that Mullen has with beating Ole Miss (which, the past few years, was NO big deal), then you're sadly mistaken.
Ask anyone wearing Navy Blue and Red, and they'll tell you the Alabama victory means 1,000x more than the Egg Bowl did.
I will not chide Mississippi State fans, or any agricultural school that shares a state with their traditional university brethren (Auburn, Texas A&M, etc...), there is good reason for disdain. Whether you've experienced it personally, or have heard about it in the multitude of accounts in media and in print, they have generally bit looked down upon by their in-state rivals.
In the Roll Tide/War Eagle documentary, the narrator plainly said, "The University of Alabama was where the state's leaders sent their children to become businessman, doctors, and lawyers. Auburn University on the other hand was an agricultural institution, where many of the farmers went to perfect their trade."
The same narrative is certainly mirrored in the Egg Bowl rivalry. False or not, Ole Miss has the reputation for being Mississippi's leader in business, legal, and medical education. For whatever reason, those professions seem to draw more public admiration than those of their Engineering and Agricultural counterparts, (Which is odd, considering how much engineers make nowadays).
The other major factor concerning the rivalry is that quite simply, Ole Miss is a national institution compared to Mississippi State. Ole Miss I believe has more students from out of state than in state.
Those out-of-state kids would rather see Ole Miss beat the name brands of the SEC, like LSU, Alabama, Georgia, Auburn, etc... than Mississippi State.
Mississippi State is widely considered the "people's university" of the state because it is predominantly an in-state school. The majority of their students and alumni, grew up with a vested interest in the Egg Bowl. They are the ones who sat through slug fests in the rain in Jackson, and dealt with 3-9 match ups the most.
I don't understand why Mississippi State tries to pull the "Lil' Bro" narrative. It must be satire. While Ole Miss fans do care about beating state, because of the general history of the fanbases in current makeup of students and alumni geographical points, they just don't have the same passion for the Egg Bowl that Dawg fans do--and it's a shame.
I know you thought you sounded all intelligent and shite but you are a dumb arse frick.
Almost nothing you say here is correct. If you think beating Bama was bigger to them, it's simply cuz they told you that and you believed their bs. If they had lost the egg bowl, they'd be calling for Freeze head. Not so if losing to Bama. Look at the social media following the egg bowl. The pro rebel traffic rivals or out paces States at the same time last yr. But most of all. You just totally contradict your own dumb arse opinions in your own dumb arse post. I'll let you reread it first before I point it out and make you look totally stupid.

Bama was unquestionably a bigger win. State would of been the bigger loss. Not all things are black and white.

quote:His whole post was stupid. The narrator of the War Eagle/ Roll Tide documentary never made the statement he claimed. The people who made that documentary interviewed several former famous athletes and graduates from the two schools, and an old fig that graduated from bammer made that statement. Somebody also posted a graph on this very board a few weeks ago showing bammer graduates make the lowest average salary out of all 14 schools in the SEC, so the idea that bammer is some elite academic institution that only the elite of society attend is roll on the ground laughable

Ole Miss is like the pretty mansion on the hill Moo State looks at from the porch of their trailer.

you keep saying that. it's kinda like Mullet saying " we will never lose to the school up north". Freeze has beaten him 2 out of 3 times. how does it feel to have the "best team State has had in 100 years" and still lose to an Ole Miss team with a quarterback who could not practice all week....

And the OP is a ridiculous. "Superbowl" are you serious?? Have you paid attention to MS State football at all these past few years? Your head coach has made it into the superbowl for state. You wear fricking gold shite for the game. And on top of that it is ADIDAS gold shite. Go back home and do less.
And our real rival is LSU.
