When was the last time this happened?

2007.

And the defense played pretty well all night against Ole Miss. Those stats are very misleading. Four times in the game Ole Miss had drives that started inside our own 30-yard line. This led to 24 Ole Miss points. 14 of their points came on explosive plays. One of which was a fluke in which the defense did everything right, but ended up getting a bad break. Luck happens. Nothing you can do there. The other came off a play that should have been called back on a penalty.

When you eliminate those two big plays Ole Miss had on Saturday night, they are left with just 294 yards of total offense. Alabama's offense, even with those two big plays added back in, outgained Ole Miss by 70 yards. For all the criticism being lobbed at Lane Kiffin, his offense gained 503 yards against one of the best defenses in the SEC. But all of the yardage in the world rarely overcomes five turnovers, four of them being unforced mistakes.

Throw in the ST coach too. Bama has sucked on special teams for years now.
We don't have a ST coach. According to Saban, all coaches are ST coaches.

Because without a fluke play and a illegal play his defense only gave up 300yds and 24 points to a team that was averaging 600+ and 70+.

If you're going to fire anyone, fire Bobby Williams. Between return units and kickers the team has been shite for about the past 3-4 years

Saban's biggest asset is rebuilding a losing program. That is when he is at his best. The players and fans are just going through the motions. Baja is in a funk.

I could have sworn that Alabama was the defending SEC champs, but you guys have convinced me I must be mistaken.

What made it a "freak" scramble?

I agree with this. No idea why Kiffin is the scapegoat-he's doing all he can do with what he has to work with. Turnovers was the key to the loss, and the Auburn-style miracle TD helped too.
Bama will be hard to beat from here on out, providing Kiffin weathers the stupid rumor mill and stays.

the fact that 99/100 times on that play coker is brought down for a huge loss? it wasn't skill or vision or speed or power that got him loose -- it was fate. just like the ole miss bounce and catch. it was a busted play and it worked for a massive gain at a critical moment. that's a fluke.

Special teams has been solely responsible for around half our losses, maybe more, the past few years. We can't kick a FG over 30 yds this year and can't return punts or kickoffs. At this point its a good play if we dont fumble a return and start on the 20. It's abdolutely killing us.

You people who keep saying the defense had a bad night against Ole Miss should keep in mind that 150 of the passing yards came on two fluke plays. Without those yards, the Rebs would have had around 300 yards total offense. I thought the defense looked pretty good.

I'm not trolling I'm just asking why doesn't the DC get the same treatment?

I think the real answer to that question is that in all fairness we can't really be 100% sure what Kirby is and is not to blame for. The schools of thought being: it's saban's defense, it's saban and kirby's defense, or it's kirby's defense with minimal saban input. So you get a mixed bag of reactions.

I think you're probably pretty spot on, personally. But, at this point, Kiffin should really really start changing the play book. Our QB can not do what he loves doing. In fact, if we START doing good, I think it will solely be BECAUSE of Kiffin. Our QB is mediocre even for Bama standards of QB.

but that's just like... my opinion, man.

Mel Tucker is a name also that we should throw in for the blame. Was brought in from the Bears to improve the secondary and create turnovers and so far, there really hasn't been than much improvement from the secondary so far this year.

So a QB scramble on a busted play (happens multiple times in pretty much every game) is the same as the helmet bounce pass? Sure.

You obviously know nothing about football. Qb drops back, no one is open, he runs for 25 yards... Fluke.... Get out of here with that shite
