Pinkel's a good coach, yes, great? No.

BUT he's the best coach in the history of Mizzou football.

Look at all you UT fans that come out during the offseason. Why aren't y'all here midway through the season?

And no, I don't think GP is the best coach in Mizzou history. There's 1 that he'll never pass IMO. And there's another 1 or 2 that may be in the same grouping with GP.

based on what? going to 6 win bowl games? aggregate win totals that pile up as long as you don't get fired, retire or move on? he's also pretty high up there in number of loss's for Mizzou coaches.

Other Mizzou coaches have conference titles and one has a NC. Unfortunately Mizzou doesn't have a long list of great coaches but we do have some better than Pinkel.

I don't post on here very often during any part of the year so ask someone else.

I agree. No one will pass Devine. After Devine, I'd probably throw GP and a couple others in a group and call them tied for 2nd.

V&S...I give you credit. You're here through thick and thin, but you can't deny that the numbers of Vol posters have at least doubled since the end of football.

for those who aren't familiar w/ Don Faurot:

quote:

The split-T is an offensive formation in American football that was popular in the 1940s and 50s. Developed by Missouri Tigers head coach Don Faurot as a variation on the T formation, the split-T was first used in the 1941 season and allowed the Tigers to win all but their season-opening match against the Ohio State Buckeyes and the 1942 Sugar Bowl versus Fordham.[1] Jim Tatum and Bud Wilkinson, who coached under Farout with the Iowa Pre-Flight Seahawks during World War II, brought the split-T to the Oklahoma Sooners in 1946.[2] After Tatum left for Maryland in 1947, Wilkinson became the head coach and went on to win a record-setting 47 straight games and two national titles between 1953 and 1957.

I'm a bit less than objective about Al Onofrio because he was the first Mizzou coach I can remember and won some huge games vs Penn St, Bama, USC, etc. Along with Devine who the Orange Bowl for the 60 trophy, those are some good coaches. Pinkel needs to at least win the conference once if he want's to be considered with those men.

If it matters, Arkansas did get the better hire.

Tennessee's hire is laughable - like Tennessee.
