Mullen is a better coach
One has to wonder what Mullen could do with what Miles has to work with. Could Miles win at State?

Les Miles beat Chuck Norris in thumb wrestling

Les Miles could retire today, and it would take Mullen 7 years to catch up to him in NFL players taken.
Mullen coached as long as Miles??? Which school is in the hotbed for recruits LSU or Miss St???? Put Mullen at LSU and he would turn out better than Les. So catchup cant be used here for NFL players.

No. Not at all. I assume you are a youngun who has only known football since 2000.
Offenses come and go. The I formation has been a mainstay.
Here ya go with offensive evolution:
Single wing- later morphed to a player being handed the ball vs snapped to him. The pre-cursor to I and split backs.
Wishbone- No way it can be stopped. Texas, OU and Bama dominated the 70's with it, after 10 years they couldnt score anymore.
Veer- See wishbone
Fun n gun- One national title with all the talent. nuff said
5 wides- see fun n gun
No backs- Disappeared during the night somewhere.
Spread- Version of the wishbone. Developed in early 90's. Had some success with Florida and AU but not as consistently successful as prototypical offenses.
In short football always comes back to a back carrying the ball following a lead blocker and controlling the clock. If the spread was gonna be successful long-term it would have started years ago. It's fun to watch, exciting but generally ends up losing the important games. Mullen, well where did MSU finish after all was said and done? Oregon? Miles a Natty and will beat Mullen way more than Mullen beats him.
Miles offense is not outdated. Is just not the coolest offense to run right now. Same with Bama and FSU. LSU hasnt been off because of the offense, LSU plays really good teams week in and out.
Here are ways to win at football:
Rush for more than you opponents
Have a greater time of poss.-this keeps the otehr teams offense off the field and out of sync. Timing gets off and the players get cold and tight. Heard Jim Kelly say the most frustrating thing to him in the first Super Bowl against the Giants was only the ball 4 times each half and watching the Giants go on 5 minute drives every time they had the ball. Parcells was a master. He was way beneath Buffalo offensive wise but his defense and ground game nuetralized Buffalo's high flying offense and frustrated them.
BIGGEST one- Be plus in the turnover ratio. Turnovers kill teams faster than any other reason.
LSU lacked some talent and experience last year at QB. If your QB can complete 60%, hit short, controlled first down passes ( see Mauck and Flynn) and compliment it with a ground attack that averages 4 yds a carry, you will win.

It's an interesting question... Mullen is 3-24 against ranked teams at State and Miles was 3-11 against ranked teams at OKST.

Les is done in a year or two (he retires)and I think Danny boy will be on our short list.
People that follow things closely saw what he did at Florida and what he is doing at State with average talent.

Yeah Mississippi never has any good recruits. All the good recruits are only across the state line
Mullen at LSU would be successful but to say he'd be better than Les is laughable.

Didn't Georgia Tech run all over State's arse with an "outdated" offense in the last game they played?

i love how all these teams (minus bama and auburn) love to compare their coach to Les Miles. and its usually after a rare win. then the next season order is restored and you don't hear shite.
you never see any threads comparing them to other coaches. it's quite amusing.

Of course he could. It's all about recruiting and Les is one of the best in the country. If Les can get 5 star WRs to commit year in and year out without a consistent passing game then he could recruit great players to Starkvegas.

I'm thinking Jimbo Fisher is next LSU coach not Mulls

with all due respect to miles, chavis is the one responsible for developing the D talent.

The success or failure of a program is always about the head coach. Always. Staff hiring and development is part of it.
