Serious question,
If Les Miles takes another coaching job, will LSU be off the hook for the buyout?

my question as well. that would be awesome if they aren't . Les could get $15 mil, plus a new salary. He'd laugh so hard every two weeks on pay day.

Yes, the buyout only comes into play during a "firing without cause".

You don't have cause. Has he violated the contract?

Of course we don't have cause, but if he leaves and goes to UT or any other school, there will be no firing.
I imagine there is a clause in the contract protecting LSU as well, but we would gladly let that slide if someone came knocking.

if he gets fired, finishes the year, and next month Texas fires strong, then hires Les, is Les still getting $15mill from LSU?

If it's offered, he should go. He won't be able to do anything to please most of these idiots at LSU. Even if he wins a natty next year, they'll find some ludicrous excuse to get rid of him. LSU fans don't deserve him.

What are you talking about
He would be "leaving"
If he isnt the coach at LSU after this year it will be because he is fired.
In that case he can take a salary at his new school AND get paid the buyout money

I think Miles would actually be a juggernaut at Texas.
The Big12 offenses would force him to change his offensive scheme.
His players already love him.
He's whacky enough on his own-and now tempered by experience with unrealistic LSU fans-that he could handle the Longhorn boosters.

They just got done paying Mack Brown. I don't think they want to pay Charlie Strong and Les Miles too.

Yes. And whatever Texas decides to pay him

Texas is about the only school with enough money and lacking enough brains to do this, however.

LSU will be the laughing stock of the SEC if this happens. Seems their fans are all for it.

I read it as if Texas offered before Les was fired. I don't believe LSU would be on the hook for the buyout in that case. Wouldn't Texas essentially buy the contract from LSU much like what they did with Strong from Louisville?

Why would they fire one Mack Brown to hire another?

When we fired Nutt, we allowed him to hold a presser to resign before he took the OM job.
It allowed him to save face while allowing the University to not have to go through the "who do they think they are? Do they really think they can do better?" Media blitz.
