I think he was just pissed. 
I didn't see it, but I read somewhere that the Baton Rouge newspaper had an article in it yesterday that said that Russell Shepard's career at LSU was a flop. I'm pretty sure that's what started that rant. I to him for standing up for one of his players like that. Not many coaches would do it.

At his Monday press conference he almost got into the same spirit again when asked what was behind his rant.He was starting to get louder & louder but stopped himself. But as an another example of his humor, when he was asked what music in TS..yes, this was an actual question...makes him want to dance, he laffed loudly & said "Dance? it would take more than music". The implication being he would need to have a buzz on. The media laffed its butt off.
