LSU has only had one coach since I have been alive that didn't get good to elite recruits and that was Mike Archer in the 80s.

So why does saban get so much credit for recruiting?

The top players were leaving the state.

And if LSU could only hire a moron

Miles was not a moron back in 2005. He was a solid coach that had a chance to be more than that. He did very well in his prime.

I think Les will coach at a school like Kansas State. Good conference, expectations realistic. He'd be the perfect replacement for a retired Snyder.

We shall see. I think he's done, but, we shall see.

He's set for life, though, so, no need to worry about him, or his family. Miles's estate is so very large now that his children have no need to find gainful employment. They can all become artists or novelists or something like that.

Hallman got some pretty good talent (as DiNardo showed pretty quickly in his first year by winning immemdiately), but because he was a buffoon and kept losing, it was hard to keep the best of the best in state. DiNardo did better and started with getting some of the best of the state to stay here (Kevin Faulk, etc.), but Saban really emphasized locking down the LA talent and when you look at his 2003 national championship roster, it was loaded with stars from Louisiana who basically all ended up playing in the NFL.

Miles is going to get another shot, but it ain't going to be Texas. I could see him going to Houston if Herman leaves - Miles recruiting Houston could be vicious. All the guy needs is an OC and Baylor's could be out of a job at the end of the year.
