You say steele is a downgrade but yesterday on 104.5 espn radio in Baton Rouge Connor Neigbor's (played for LSu) dad who played at Alabama and had a son that played at Alabama for Saban basically said Steele was Nick Saban's dc not Kirby Smart. Smart just had the title. Also if you read the interview with Ragland they think very highly of Steele.

Why did the rest of the staff neglect specific positions then? And if so it seems like Chavis did a pretty solid job with the defense last year with zero LB depth as you imply

Chavis didn't teach Mathieu how to ball hawk. Or PP7 how to cover elite SEC receivers. He coached linebackers and linebackers have been our weak spot for a while now.
He's great with schemes and reading offenses, but LSU has had so many playmakers over the years that made him and every other defensive coach look good.

ULL Your LBs and DBs are bottom 3 in conference.
I'd place your DE unit top 5.
Your DT's I'd place bottom 5 and depth is terrible there. You are going to start Daylon Mack day 1 and line him up next to Alonzo Williams who has been just average.

The bickering is so old over here. Just be up front with them and then let the chips fall where they may. We all know LSU is loaded and if we can manage to get mediocre QB play we will be a top 10 team all year. I'm done arguing with Arkansas and A&M fans. They haven't accomplished 1/4 of what LSU has in the last 20 years. Why argue with fans of teams who's best win in 2 decades is a meaningless BCS bowl?

No doubt there are pieces to the puzzle that need to be found . But we have great recruiters not named Chavis. So it will work out.

I don't doubt that, but it remains to be seen. You lost out on some good DBs this class.

Naturally, aggy felt the need to hijack the LSU thread and make it about them.
He talked about his shoes and made 2-3 minutes of other random remarks but nothing too comical.
