most of those things happen to pretty much all teams over the course of a season. but in '08, the offense wasn't the problem. none of those problems were systemic. they moved the ball and scored points. this season, the players are just making the same dumb mistakes every game that all players are coached not to do from the time they can put on shoulder pads.
also, the passing stats are improving this season. granted, tn's defense isn't great but, there's still improvement. the passing game is slightly better with lee.

That goes for every player in college or the pros, at every level. They all know better. So how does one team win and the other lose?
The championship teams have coaches who minimize those mistakes. They get their players focused.
In 2009, the Saints had less mistakes (turnovers & penalties) than Arizona, Minnesota, Colts, Vikings again, San Fran. They were on a 5-0 win streak. But what happened when they had more penalties & turnovers vs Atlanta? They lost. The short week, the coaches did not have them ready for Atlanta.
Go back to their 8-8 year in 2008. That year, the Saints looked just like they did last Sunday. Super-sloppy football with practically the same players that won it all the next year. That was coaching that was the difference between a pretending team and a contending championship team.
Preparedness, focus, minimal mistakes, discipline, hunger: the marks of a championship team instilled by their leader. Now can you honestly say that LSU's leader has instilled these traits into any of LSU's teams over the last three seasons?

quote:why cherry pick the 2 worst seasons and ignore the others? this is the fan selectivity that makes lsu football miserable these days. lsu fans can't enjoy all the things that are going right. bottom line, miles wins way more than he loses and that's more than 9/10 of college coaches can say. his 5 seasons at lsu ranks at the very top of any 5 year stint in the sec in the last 3 decades.

the pass offense moved up this week. there is clearly improvement, even if it is minimal.
