At the end of the day, Ole Miss is doing what they have to do. I'm starting to believe that we probably did approach the idea of firing Freeze for lesser penalties and were told or advised that the penalties would be the same regardless. If that is the case, it would make sense to try and keep the coach that the players committed to playing for and trying to fight off an additional year of a bowl ban. If you are going to try and protect Freeze, there has to be a scapegoat. Where we screwed up is not paying off Farrar to keep quiet and take the blame. I see why Farrar and his lawyer want to fight this, but at the end of the day he was the one that was really careless. There was zero chance that he was going to survive it all. This is just a guess on my part, but I'm assuming the alumni who were going to take care of Barney are also the ones who are being disassociated with the school so now they have no reason to spend money to protect the school and pay Barney. Which again, big screw up on our part.

Upvote.

Very sensible and logical perspective.

Your people should've paid Barney enough to not only shut him up but also enough to make him not care one bit about coaching again in his life time. If Barney wants to continue his coaching career, then he will fight Ole Miss for making him the scapegoat.

Shoulda paid the man enough to make leave the country and live a life of luxury in a place where no one gives a shite about football.

LOL, you really believe you will get 20 over 4 years? 20 over 3 years would be more like it but it's still gonna be worse than thst. Prob 25-30 over 3-4 years and 2 year bowl ban. Yall aren't getting off easy. You're pissing the ncaa off by sticking to your guns when you've obviously been a serious repeat violator and that's not good for ole miss. Not only have recruits gone on record saying you offered them money but you've had previous players admitted to taking money from coaches. You're fricked.

The NCAA has known Freeze was dirty all the way back to Briarcrest and him delivering that Blindside dude. The NCAA was portrayed as stupid in the film and Sandra Bullock's white guilt was the only thing that saved his arse. He won't skate this time. Especially after they already got after his arse when he was Ogre's director of crootin'

Leo Lewis $10,000 story is jacked up

The big inconsistencies that Ole Miss relies on to refute the entire premise that he was paid are this:

1-Who reached out to whom. Once he says the booster called him, once he says he called the booster.

2-How the money was delivered. A wad of bills or a bag of money.

3-Whether he never had contact with the booster afterward or received a text a couple of hours after.

These seem pretty minor details in the context of the overall story. He's been consistent with the major allegation, that he met with the booster the day before signing day and received the cash. The minor discrepancies wouldn't cause me to reject the entire allegation if I were the trier of fact.

In the NOA, it reads that the egregious part of the violation was that an Associate AD introduced the boosters to the Student Athlete. Ole Miss didn't deny that.

So what if they catch Student Athlete #39 in an inconsistency? They already admitted to the Level I violation

NCAA getting a player to lie to protect themselves. This is new.

Why don't you look up Doug Buckles Mr LSU Sports Trainer person. OM used immunity to try and hang us back in Sherrill's day.

The NCAA will hammer them because their Asst Athletic Director orchestrated Booster #12, #13, & #14 to Student-Athlete #39.

Can't have staffers making the introductions between multiple Boosters and recruits. That's a Level 1 violation.

Except when I watched TCU absolutely throttle Ole Miss in the Peach Bowl. Just know about that guy knocking around some poor woman because I saw a .GIF of it.

Yes, let's look at the facts.

Fact #1 - Ole Miss admits that Barney set Leo up with a booster

Fact #2 - Ole Miss left out most, if not all of the NCAA's exhibits in their response to the NOA....I wonder why?

Fact #3 - Leo Lewis successfully described the booster's car and physical appearance in his interview

Fact #4 - Leo and the boosters met on multiple occasions (I guess they met up to talk about coffee and the weather)

Fact #5 - Leo admitted that Ole Miss and another institution paid him money

Fact #6 - Ole Miss accepted the majority of Leo's testimony.

Fact #7 - Since the NCAA blew everything up and started over with the new penalty matrix, the charges have stuck over 90% of the time.

Anyone that thinks this charge is going to get thrown out is either a very stupid human being or very loyal to Ole Miss. He messed up some details 6 months to a year after the event happened. I can't even remember what I ate for breakfast yesterday. The NCAA granted immunity to corroborate the evidence. They aren't going on testimony alone.

According to Wolken the NCAA COI has agreed with the investigators 95% of the time since the new matrix came out. The bare minimum punishment for Ole Miss with their ludicrous amount of Level 1's, that OM isn't even contesting, will have OM running out of scholarships to penalize. Their current matrix can't handle something as egregious as this case. That is crazy! That's why the NCAA was quoted as saying that everything is on the table, including the DP, for this case. That may be the only option they have to cover all Level 1's.
